Be Healthy! Shifting my page from traveling to a healthy lifestyle journey! After all "You are what you eat", right? Much Love x AV

P.S.

I truly believe that it is essential to prioritize your health - with nutrition and physical activity. Let's start with our eating habits - don't you agree when I say that we should rather be investing in good quality healthy foods now than in doctors later? With enormous amount of genetically modified and processed foods available now, it is sometimes not easy to select what is actually good for us. Here I would like to take you on a healthy journey with me - I will be sharing my recipes, which are really easy to make and are super healthy :)
I truly believe that foods create moods, so let's Eat Well, Stay Fit and Be Healthy - and hence Happy! I'm giving the credits of the "Bird of Happiness" name of the page to my friend Natasha as she is the one who calls me that:)

2 pieces of glutenfree toast (usually seeded), avocado and a simple salad of greens with olive oil (spinach, rocket, sprouts or salad leaves etc) and herbs (half of bunch of coriander, parsley or dill). Yum!😍

Good morning, world!☀️

Continuing my Health Tips series😊

Tip 3:

USE A TONGUE SCRAPER

💡Not a lot of people know about it but I have been teaching friends and family a crucial importance of the oral hygiene.

Which is not only brushing your teeth and flossing (flossing is non-negotiable for me every night, regardless of how tired I might be) but also scraping your tongue (which can collect a lot of unwanted bacteria).

👅 Not only does tongue scraping help prevent oral health issues, it also stops you from swallowing nasty bacteria in the morning and also before you go to bed.

Clean your tongue at least twice a day, every day:

🪥 First up in the morning before you consume anything including water and at night before bed. I always do it after brushing my teeth.

Brush, floss and scrape your tongue.

👉 Swipe for examples of tongue scrapers (I have tried different ones but find Dr Tungs stainless steel scraper the best so far). You can get them in a pharmacy or a health food store. They can be made of plastic, stainless steel or copper.

Even a teaspoon would do if you can’t find anything in the stores in your area. Just make sure you keep a dedicated teaspoon in your bathroom😊

W A T E R M E L O N 🍉

Watermelon is an excellent fruit that effectively hydrates, detoxifies, and cleanses the entire body on a cellular level. It is rich in vitamins A and C as well as lycopene, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin which are excellent for providing protection from lung, mouth, pancreatic, breast, prostate, endometrial, and colon cancer.

Watermelon is also known to significantly reduce inflammation, help flush out edema, aid in weight loss, and alleviate depression. Watermelon can also boost the immune system as well as strengthen vision. Watermelon is not nearly as high in sugar as most people think as it has half the sugar than an apple.

Watermelon is loaded with antioxidants that have the ability to neutralize free radical molecules and aid in the prevention of chronic illnesses. The rind of the watermelon is equally beneficial as it is one of the highest organic sodium foods in nature and one of the best sources of chlorophyll and can be juiced for a delicious and healing drink.

And, if you are lucky enough to get a watermelon with black seeds, even better! Crunch those seeds up too, they have an amazing effect on the nervous system, aiding in relaxing the body and lowering blood pressure and contain helpful amounts of iron, zinc, and protein.

Today’s tip is:

WALK after eating, especially after dinner🥗🥘🥙🏃🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

While I don’t do it every time, I try to do it most of the days👍

Here’s why👇

1. Walking after eating improves digestion
When you finish eating your body gets to work breaking down the food and absorbing the nutrients. So by moving your body, you’re helping things move within your body as you process the food you just ate, which is especially helpful if you tend to get sluggish after a meal.

2. It supports blood sugar regulation
After eating, food must be broken down into forms of energy for the body to use. As little as ten minutes of post-dinner walking can improve blood glucose levels compared to other times during the day. This can support efforts to reduce your risk for insulin insensitivity or metabolic conditions like type II diabetes. Walking can prevent a “glucose spike” which prevents a sugar crash.

3. Promotes those good-mood hormones
An after-dinner stroll releases serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that promotes good sleep, helps regulate appetite, improves learning and memory, and increases positive feelings.

4. Utilizes stored energy

5. Boosts blood flow
When you’re walking, you’re letting your body pump more blood throughout it—which is especially beneficial after a meal. This is essential for muscles. It induces blood flow to the limbs and organs, and better circulation due to movement will result in a healthier vascular system that will transport the nutrients necessary to bones, muscles, and organs to work more efficiently.

6. Improves sleep quality
While you might be tempted to fall asleep after a big meal, a short walk will actually allow you to have a better sleep. Walking after eating promotes a faster and deeper sleep, as serotonin is a precursor to melatonin. So taking the time to clock some steps before hitting the hay will pay off in the long run when you actually go to bed.

Glutenfree, refined sugarfree, dairyfree cookies🍪

I used orange essence instead of the vanilla essence for my batch and the cookies taste delightful! Also I had a mix of macadamias, cashews and almonds so added those instead of walnuts 🌰🥜

Hey guys!

So I get asked a lot about what foods to eat and drink to stay healthy and what to avoid.

And while I’m not a certified nutritionist or dietician (and you should consult a specialist if you need professional help) I have done a lot of research over many years.

So I thought I’d share some tips that work for me and might be helpful for you.

Tip 1 for today:

💧DRINK WARM WATER UPON WAKING

Did you know that while sleeping, just based on the humidity in our breath, we lose about 1 liter of water each night! (https://thesleepdoctor.com/nutrition/dehydration-and-sleep/)

I think a lot of people are chronically dehydrated these days. Coffee dehydrates you big time and if that’s what you drink first thing in the morning I would suggest changing your habit to introduce water instead.

My research shows that warm water first thing in the morning hydrates your body (and your skin😊) after sleep, helps eliminate toxins, and aids digestion.
I’ve been doing it for over 10 years now.

🍋 If you like, add half of squeezed lemon or lime for best hydration

💦 I drink 500ml upon waking

🚰 Use filtered water if possible. We have a water filter attached to our tap and it removes heavy metals, chlorine and fluoride (not all filters remove fluoride), it mineralizes, alkalises and adds hydrogen to water.
If you don’t have a tap filter at least try a brita filter (or something similar). You don’t know how old the pipes are where you live and what’s in your water, so do the best you can to hydrate yourself first thing in the morning.

✅ If you use bottled water, make sure the bottles are BPA free

If you follow medical medium, AW recommends to drink room temp lemon/lime water but I prefer just warm filtered water (about 35-40 degrees).

Also I would suggest waiting for at least 30-45 minutes before having a coffee/tea or any food so that you let the water hydrate you first👍
