Here's some details about the upcoming Summer Solstice:

The Summer Solstice signals a turn in the wheel of the year - the time of the year where we have the longest day and the shortest night. This year, 2024, in the southern hemisphere it falls on Saturday, December 21st and I couldn't think of a more perfect end…

Celebrating the significant dates of the year, that correlate to the seasons, helps me stay in sync with nature.

For some reason Autumn Equinox is one of my favourites. I feel like this day really marks the beginning of Autumn, you can feel it in the air, every year. This year it will fall on Sunday night 20th March.

Sometimes I hold a large gathering of friends and family to help mark this occasion, but this year I am preparing for a family ceremony.

If you would like to know more and/or mark this occasion with your own family, let me know in the comments and I can send you tips on what to do. It can be as basic as a few talking points while sitting around the dinner table or can be something elaborate with a fire pit and specific tasks and games to play.

Lunar New Year seems more significant this year.
What are your intentions for the year?

Today, the start of the Lunar New Year feels like a much more appropriate time to be thinking about the year ahead: all the Christmas cheer and holiday feelings have been left behind in January and today the New Year of the Tiger begins.

The new lunar year for 2022 is also combined with the element of water. So what does this Year of the Tiger have install for us? According to china-family-adventure.com/year-of-the-tiger.html This is what we could expect:

"A Water Tiger Year combines an energetic and enterprising tiger with a flowing current that will push forward, offering a great time to learn new things and adapt and continue to advance and progress. Between the vitality of the Tiger and the momentum of that current of water, get the needed nudge to propel you into a year of great accomplishments and innovation.

What to watch out for? This will be a very dynamic year, try to grab your opportunities as they present themselves, there will be many and will come in a barrage. The daring and confident nature of the Tiger will push you forward, just keep it from turning that impulsiveness into chaos..."

On that note, I'm off to write down my plans for learning new things and what I wish to accomplish this year. I think I will make it a big "wish list" 😀
If I put some daring plans out there, who knows what opportunities may present themselves this year...

Why don't you spend a few moments writing down your wish list? Because we all know things down brings them one step closer to reality.

Happy Solstice 2022
Here in Australia, we will mark this occasion tonight, just before 2am. I am actually planning to get up for a world wide meditation at this time, however, you might like to celebrate at a more reasonable hour 😁.
Summer Solstice and Midsummer are all about celebrating the full expression of Summer and this hydrangea in full bloom in my garden was the perfect symbol of this for me. Tonight all my family will be scattered, so we held a small celebration last night over the dinner table. After the initial eye-rolling and giggling the teenagers actually did get into it, especially when our feasting at the end involved ice-cream 😀!!
How are you going to mark this occasion? I have written some prompts on The Natural Healer website (link in comments), so if you are stuck on what to do head over there to see what I suggest. It doesn't have to be big: there are things to do on your own or within your family/ group.
I would love to hear how you celebrate the solstice in your part of the world - drop in a comment or send me a DM.

Spring Equinox is a celebration of the time of year that brings forward more light. There is a shift in balance of light/darkness. The days are becoming longer and it might be time to shine some brightness onto areas of your life that have been neglected over winter. Now is a time when we can honour the light within us but sill acknowledge the necessity of the dark.

Because Equinox is all about balance I like to use it as a time to examine what is happening in my life right now and identify where I can create greater balance. If you would like to do the same, you can use a garden as an analogy for your life. During Spring, you need to keep an eye on the seedlings (ideas/behaviours/routines) you have “planted”)and decide which ones are growing and which ones are holding the garden (you) back and, like weeds, need to be pulled out. Is there anything you can discard or do you need to spend some more time on nurturing and caring for the seedlings that you want to develop?

We can use this same analogy to look at all aspects of your life: relationships, career, health, exercise, etc. Other questions to ask are:

Are we spending enough time nurturing our creative side?
What about our diet – is there a balance there? You are allowed to indulge in a treat every once in a while, just not every day.
Are you continuing to grow and learn emotionally and spiritually? Or do you sit in front of the TV more often than you pick a a book to read?
Is there a balance between work and play?

This is not supposed to be a negative experience of pulling yourself up for all the “bad” behaviours, it’s merely an opportunity to examine your routines so you can remove those that don’t serve you. It’s a reminder to work toward growing qualities you wish to have. By weeding out the things in your life that are not useful and not serving you, you allow room for the positive aspects of your life to grow and thrive.

Let me know what your plans are.

You might have seen my post from Monday about the winter solstice and thought about doing something, but not got around to it yet. Never fear, it’s not too late – carve out some time over the weekend to take on one of the activities suggested or make up one of your own. Go – on – put it in your diary now! Nature isn’t in a hurry and honouring her cycles, even in a small way, helps you feel more connected and aligned with nature. You could even combine it with an activity connected with the full moon tonight. Give it a try – I’d love to hear about it.
