Hey friends, have you heard about Betty Kellenberger?
At 80 years old, she just completed the Appalachian Trail and in doing so, became the oldest woman ever to thru-hike it. On September 12 she finally crossed the finish line, making history. Before Betty, the women’s age record was held by Linda “Nana” Vanderloop, who did it at age 74 just the year before.
But here’s the beautiful part: Betty didn’t set out to break any records. She never thought about age, or what people might say. In her own words, “The record wasn’t on my mind. I was almost finished before people started asking my age.”
This journey wasn’t about attention or accolades. It was about something far more personal...a childhood dream. From the time she was little, Betty wondered what it would be like to hike the whole Appalachian Trail. Decades later, she did just that.
Betty’s story is a reminder that some dreams take time, and that’s okay. It also shows that no matter where you are in life, you can still chase a dream, one step at a time.
