This was a great group activity and the banner looks amazing too. Out at Bint Al Neel talking about health, groups and friendship. Sadly, several women shared their experiences of racism in Australia, but we are happy that we can build a place for these more difficult conversations. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61577320265542

Stitching Strength: Slow Stitching & Community Recovery

This week, we begin a journey of creativity and connection through slow stitching at the Crafting Community events across Wieambilla, Chinchilla, Tara, Kogan, Warra and Brigalow. thanks to Chinchilla Community Centre.

Slow stitching isn’t just about fabric and thread—it’s about creating space for conversation, reflection, and recovery. In challenging times, communities thrive when we come together, share stories, and support each other through creativity.

Through these sessions, we aim to:
🧵 Encourage mindful connection – The rhythm of stitching allows us to slow down and be present.
🧵 Create safe spaces for sharing – When our hands are busy, our hearts open, and stories flow.
🧵 Build resilience through creativity – Every stitch represents growth, repair, and renewal.

I’m excited to see how this unfolds and the impact it will have on those who join. If you're in the area, come stitch with us! Together, we stich a stronger tomorrow.

Did you know? The cochlear implant, a life-changing Australian innovation, has helped over 600,000 people worldwide reconnect with sound.

In 1978, Professor Graeme Clark led the team that successfully implanted the first multi-channel cochlear device, driven by a personal mission—his father’s battle with hearing loss. This breakthrough transformed what was once thought impossible: enabling people with profound deafness to understand speech and rejoin conversations.

Thanks to decades of research and development, cochlear implants today continue to restore not just hearing, but connection, independence, and quality of life.

Happy International Cochlear Implant Day!

Our Story

Self Help Queensland Inc provides support for support groups.

We support people to find and sustain support groups to improve their health. Self help and support groups may be large or small, online or face to face, informal or structured, stand alone or part of a network. They vary across a broad range of health conditions and related wellbeing issues, including genetic conditions, mental health, chronic illness, disability, grief and loss, parenting, sexual health, addiction, abuse, environment, multicultural, social action, rare diseases, refugees etc. Our aim is to support Queenslanders to share their lived experience of health and disease with others to improve their own and each other’s wellbeing. We help establish, develop, promote and sustain Self Help and Support Groups in Queensland. We act as a point of contact for community members, organisations and professionals to locate self help groups for themselves, their family, clients or patients. Self Help Queensland Inc is a charity formed in 1983.
