There's a reason the sandtray is a cornerstone of our play therapy space. It’s a world in a box.

Here, stories are told not with words, but with hands. By choosing figures and shaping the sand, children build a tangible picture of their inner life.

It’s a silent conversation that allows them to process big feelings, find solutions, and heal. It is a profound privilege to witness the world a child creates in the sand.

At Blooming Heart Therapy, we believe that lifelong learning is key to being effective and present therapists. We love discovering new insights and challenging our perspectives.

Here's a peek at the podcasts that are currently inspiring our team:

Sarah's: Lessons from the Playroom with Lisa Dion "I’ve been listening since 2017. It continues to be a grounding source of insight and inspiration. Each episode invites deep self-reflection — on who I am as a person and how I show up in the playroom as a therapist."

Bianca's: Also a fan of Lessons From the Playroom! Great minds think alike, and this resource is a favourite for its deep dives into the practice of play therapy.

Holly's: Big Small Talk & The Imperfects For meaningful conversations and embracing vulnerability, Holly is listening to Hannah Feruson & Sarah-Jane Adams' Big Small Talk, and has recently started on The Imperfects with Hugh Van Cuylenburg and team.

Anoushka's: The Apology Line This fascinating podcast explores the nature of empathy, confession, and the human desire to be heard—themes that resonate deeply in the world of therapy.

Even as the Brisbane air is a little cooler, the power of nature for our wellbeing doesn't fade! Stepping outside, even for a short while, can be incredibly restorative for both mind and body.

At QIPT and Blooming Heart Therapy, we often see the wonderful impact of nature and outdoor play on children's regulation, creativity, and overall happiness. And the benefits extend to all of us!
Why embrace the outdoors this winter?

🫶 Mood Lifter: Sunshine (even winter sun!) boosts Vitamin D and serotonin, helping to elevate mood.

🫶 Stress Reducer: Spending time in green spaces can lower stress hormones and calm the nervous system.

🫶 Energy & Focus: Fresh air can combat that sluggish feeling and improve concentration.
Sensory Engagement: Nature provides rich sensory experiences that are grounding and stimulating – perfect for mindful moments or active play.

🫶 Connection: It’s a great opportunity for family bonding or quiet reflection.

So, rug up if you need to, find a local park, explore your backyard, or simply sit and soak in the sounds and sights of nature. Your mind will thank you for it!

Watching someone you care about struggle with their mental health can be tough. It's natural to want to help but not always know how. At QIPT and Blooming Heart Therapy, we believe that understanding and support can make a world of difference.

Here are a few practical ways to support a loved one:

⚡ Listen Actively & Without Judgment: Sometimes, just being heard is what’s needed most.

⚡ Create a safe space for them to share if they choose, without offering unsolicited advice or downplaying their feelings.

⚡ Educate Yourself: Learning about their specific challenges can help you understand what they might be experiencing and reduce stigma.

⚡ Encourage Professional Help: Gently suggest seeking support from a GP, therapist, or counsellor.

⚡ Offer to help them find resources or even accompany them to an appointment if they're comfortable.

⚡ Offer Practical Support: This could be help with daily tasks, a distracting activity, or simply your presence. Ask them what would be helpful.

⚡ Practice Patience & Compassion: Recovery and managing mental health is a journey with ups and downs. Your consistent, compassionate support is invaluable.

⚡ Look After Yourself Too: Supporting others can be demanding. Ensure you're also taking care of your own wellbeing and setting boundaries.

⚡ Remember, you don't need to be an expert, just a kind and consistent presence. Small gestures of support can have a big impact.

🥁🥁🥁Roll out the virtual red carpet, this is BIANCA!

Bianca works with young children, including those who have experienced relational trauma, and is dedicated to supporting parents in understanding their children's needs and behaviour. She brings a respectful, intuitive, and gentle approach to her sessions, creating a space where everyone can feel seen and understood.

Her philosophy is guided by the simple but powerful quote from Hamlet: "To thine own self be true." This shines through in her work, where she is described as authentic, funny, curious, and very gentle.

In a nutshell, Bianca is:
💥 In session: Authentic, funny, curious, and very gentle. 💖

💥 Loves: Cats! 😻 She has two but wishes she could have a whole bunch more.

💥 Powered by: The tunes of Taylor Swift ("Shake It Off" is her jam!) and movies like Top Gun and Moana. 🎬

💥 Her motto: "To thine own self be true."

Bianca is a hard-working, water-loving, winter person who is passionate about helping kids and supporting parents. We think she's pretty great!

Journalling offers an amazing outlet for frustration or confusion. And it also helps us to gain perspective and practice gratitude. In fact, research shows that even 10-15 minutes of infrequent journalling every week can yield significant benefits.

As school resumes soon across Queensland, we're sending warm wishes to all students, families, and educators for a smooth transition back into Term 3!

Starting a new term can bring a mix of excitement and perhaps a few butterflies. It’s a time for new learning, reconnecting with friends, and settling back into routines. Remember to be patient with yourselves and your children as everyone adjusts.

If the return to school brings up any anxieties or challenges for your child, know that support is available. Open conversations, understanding, and sometimes a little extra help can make all the difference.

Here's to a positive and engaging term ahead!

This NAIDOC Week, QIPT and Blooming Heart Therapy proudly honour the rich history, vibrant cultures, and enduring resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We acknowledge the importance of culturally safe and responsive therapeutic practices that respect and integrate Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and healing. For First Nations children, play therapy can be a space to connect with culture, express identity, and build strength, supported by therapists committed to understanding intergenerational trauma and fostering resilience.
Let’s all take this week to listen, learn, and actively support the voices and aspirations of First Nations communities.
