You have gone over your 40 weeks. You’ll probably feel heavy and tired and ready to meet your baby…. Waiting is best if there is no medical reason to induce. But there are definitely ways to encourage your bub and body to start moving.
Here are some ease do-it-at-home tricks that may be helpful.
Move around!
Walk while you’re on the phone, take a nice walk around the, move up and down the stairs… Movement means gravity and this may help move bub deeper into the birth canal. Your cervix experiences the extra pressure and could start dilating sooner. Beware not to get too ambitious with your exercises. You will need your energy later on 😊.
Enjoy that chemistry
The beauty of s*x is that it releases hormones from both partners, that can be helpful to kickstart labour. The hormone present in semen, prostaglandins, can stimulate contractions. And the hormones when experiencing an or**sm, oxytocin, have the same effect. Only have s*x at this stage when your waters are intact.
Relaxation
Our hypnobirthing classes are all about relaxation techniques. We teach, among others, breathing techniques, light touch massage, self-hypnosis, and visualisation. The latter has worked for others, to induce labour. Visualising your body going into labour.
Choose your food
Some of you will have heard that spicy food is helpful to get that birth on the way. However, the jury is out on this one. It certainly can’t hurt, but it may not stimulate labour. There are other foods that have helped others, such as pineapple and licorice. Make sure you have tried these foods before, to avoid any adverse reactions. That would not be the best timing…
For this and other great things to learn before giving birth, join our hypnobirthing classes!
