Haran loves to get his heart "pumping" to help beat family history of heart disease!
Aware of his family's health history, Haran made the important decision about five years ago to improve his cardiovascular fitness to help him avoid heart disease.
The 44-year-old medical research scientist at QIMR Berghofer joined Genesis Windsor where rigorous exercise has helped reduce the risk to his health.
In fact, Haran has progressed to the stage where he's taking up to 13 group fitness classes a week - sometimes working out three times a day!
"As I was getting older, my family history of heart disease was something that was starting to play on my thoughts, so I decided to put in the effort to improve my fitness and general wellbeing," Haran said.
"I'm probably not one for doing gym workouts, so I joined the group fitness classes, and I love not only the training aspect, but also the social vibe which really suited me."
The classes he's taking include Les Mills' bodypump, bodycombat and bodyattack while he likes to mix it up with lower-impact yoga sessions as well.
"I like the classes where there's heaps of energy .. everyone is jumping and running around and you can feed off it," he said.
"It's a great way to not only improve your fitness but make friends really quickly - everyone is so welcoming and it's a great environment."
Haran likes to take early-morning classes around 5.45am, or after work in the afternoon around 5.30pm. And does he have a favourite instructor? "All of them are amazing and really motivating," he says diplomatically. "They all go to great lengths to make sure everyone is catered for during their classes.
"They give you options and make sure you go at your own pace. Alicia (Group Fitness Manager) has done a great job putting the team together.
"Not only do they make you accountable for your own fitness - but they make it fun at the same time which is important."
As our dedicated gym member for July, Haran receives one month's free membership and a $50 supplement voucher, thanks to .supplementmart
