A little something I wrote about 8 years ago.......An insight to a funeral directors life, by Kim.
We serve those who have left,
comforting those who are left behind.....
We work hard and serve others as we would our own family. We work 24 hours, death doesn't stop because it is after 5pm or because it's the weekend or a public holiday. We get woken by nursing homes and sad families at all hours of the night. As funeral directors we miss out on our own family time or special occasions because we are there to help other families in need of our help at such a sad and emotional time in there life. When you think of the time that goes into organising a wedding, usually 12 months.... to the timeframe we have, we create an equally important event in just a few days.... the presentation of the person passed, the clothing, the venue, the dates and times of the event, the flowers, the celebrant / priests, churches, speakers, the food/ wake and venue for the wake, balloons, booklets, DVD presentations, photo enlargements, notices in newspapers, cars, staff, legal documents. Sometimes funerals get to us, we often shed an honest tear when our hearts have been touched....but what can I say.... these things make me proud, they make me who I am, thankful that I am here if you need me.... I am a funeral director.
