I am a type 1 mum.

Today was clinic, which means it’s the day we hold our breath, the day we hope that we get a green tick; it’s the day that my daughter’s overall bloods are assessed to check her levels; blood glucose, thyroid, kidney etc.
I can’t say that I am not nervous, even after 5 years the blood test, the wait, the pressure and fear is still intense.
I still have days where I don’t know what I’m doing, days I feel judged for giving my daughter sweet foods, days I feel cruel for forcing my daughter to have another needle, days where I feel like she’s been excluded or talked about, days where I’m fighting a battle because she’s discriminated against. Days where I feel angry, sad, gutted.

Today was not just clinic day, today I was just like you watching your kid at cross country, but today I wore my glasses because tears poured down my face. Because today, I feel like my heart could burst, today, my daughter ran 2 km, she came 4th in her age bracket and she did this whilst having high levels due to adrenaline. She trained for this, she pushed herself, she always does. My daughter lives life to the fullest, and I’m here, just a mum enjoying the ride.

By the way, clinic was amazing!

I spent some time chatting with Alicia today. She is lovely and is leading an invaluable research project. We are not alone and our big emotions and stressors are valid, we shouldn’t be ashamed. Parents of children with a chronic illness need support. Our mental health matters

How gorgeous! My little girl was so pleased to receive this thank you from Evaline collects samples when she has a low to send to the dog trainers. When fully trained these pups eventually alert their owner to a low or high, reach out if you want to help too!

Tonight I am preparing for a school excursion, she will be traveling an hour from school for the day! She is buzzing and I am freaking! I’ll never tell her that; instead I tell her she’ll be awesome and she’ll have the best day! Have I packed enough hypo treats? will her lunch make her steady enough? Are her devices charged? Last thing I wanted to do was cook, my soon to be father in law made me dinner
