On Friday 15 August, The Feast of the Dormition of Our Lady, Fr Stavros celebrated the Divine Liturgy for our residents, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane.

Every month, there are two liturgies served at the Home by Fr Athanasios of St George Church, and by Fr Stav when required.

We are grateful to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, Diocese of Brisbane under the spiritual care of His Grace through the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, for providing pastoral care and sacramental ministry to St Nicholas.

Residents have been enjoying games designed to build dexterity and keep minds and hands active, as well as some lovely one-on-one music therapy sessions that brought calm, joy, and connection. Each activity is tailored to individual needs, combining gentle movement with moments of personal expression.

Brisbane's most exclusive club....

Recently, our very own Harry was honoured at the Lord Mayor’s 100+ Club Morning Tea, a special event recognising Brisbane residents who have reached the incredible milestone of 100 years (and beyond).

Harry enjoyed a wonderful morning meeting the Lord Mayor, sharing stories, and celebrating with fellow centenarians. We are so proud to see him recognised for a life so richly lived, and we’re lucky to share in his warmth every day here at St Nicholas.

Here’s to you, Harry!

Every new follower means more people get to share in the love, laughter, and everyday magic of our St Nicholas community. So let’s not stop here. Tag a friend, share a post, or send them our way so we can keep the smiles growing.

A Little Bit of Country Came to Visit

We had the sweetest visitors this week when the farm came to St Nicholas. Residents (and staff) were delighted to meet fluffy lambs, playful goats, curious chickens, and even a teeny little piggy who had a big attitude.

There were plenty of smiles, pats, and cuddles as our animal guests made their rounds, bringing a little bit of country joy right to our doorstep.

We recently welcomed our new resident, Savvas, with a traditional orthodox home blessing by Fr Stavros, our Resident Experience Manager.

Fr Stavros’ role is all about enhancing the residential experience at St Nicholas, and this special moment was a beautiful way to begin Savvas’ time in our community.

It was such a joy to have family join us for the blessing, filling the room with love, support, and warm wishes for this new chapter. Welcome Savvas 💙

Some of our residents had a wonderful day out by the bay with a trip to the Pelican’s Nest Café in Wynnum!

It was a little breezy, but that didn’t stop us from soaking up the sunshine, enjoying a delicious lunch, and even getting our toes in the sand. From fish and chips to sweet treats, every bite was savoured, we shared stories and the laughter and smiles in the photos say it all. There was even some old-school tunes played on the bus bringing back fond memories.

There’s something special about sharing good food and fresh sea air with friends. Days like this remind us just how much joy a simple outing can bring.

We were delighted to welcome dancers from the Queensland Ballet back to St Nicholas for another Ballet Serene, seated ballet class in the hostel.

With gentle movements, beautiful music, and plenty of smiles, the session brought grace, laughter, and connection to everyone who joined in. These classes are a wonderful way to move, express, and enjoy the moment and our residents absolutely love them.

We’ve been privileged to share some beautiful celebrations at St Nicholas recently.

Our dear Messina turned 100! Surrounded by lots of love, and plenty of cake, she marked a century of love, devotion, and cherished memories. What an incredible milestone.

There were smiles all round as Big Red celebrated her birthday. Martin popped in to wish her a happy birthday and there was of course cake to share. Look at that with that beautiful smile,

We also honoured Ann on her name day, a special celebration where she served cake to friends. Name day is a special celebration which reflects the cultural traditions we proudly embrace here at St Nicholas.

Wishing a heartfelt happy birthday and name day to these wonderful women.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Friends of Gwenda's Gaggle, behind this generous donation of 12 handmade fidget blankets for our residents. Pictured here is Cath from the group presenting the blankets to Debra from St Nicholas. This same group had previously donated 10 fidget blankets.

Fidget blankets are more than just a gift, they provide comfort, sensory stimulation, and a calming activity for people living with dementia. We are so grateful for this thoughtful contribution that will bring both joy and support to many of our residents. 💜
