If you feel you canโ€™t talk to your friends, family or neighbours, just remember you can always book an appointment with your GP if you arenโ€™t doing OK.

You don't need to be related to someone to check in. Some people may feel more comfortable talking about their struggles when a neighbour or colleague asks, 'are you OK?'.

Jacqui experienced this when a family friend checked in with her. She was able to talk more freely about her challenges which left her feeling lighter.

From tomorrow (Friday 11 November), Queensland's COVID-19 traffic light system will move to AMBER. ๐Ÿšฆ

There are currently moderate rates of COVID-19 community transmission and Queensland is entering a new wave.

While the traffic light is amber, we recommend you wear a mask:
๐Ÿ‘‰ in healthcare settings
๐Ÿ‘‰ indoors, if you canโ€™t socially distance
๐Ÿ‘‰ on public transport
๐Ÿ‘‰ if you are older or medically at risk
๐Ÿ‘‰ if youโ€™re around people who are vulnerable to COVID-19.

Stay home if youโ€™re sick, maintain good hygiene and keep up-to-date with your vaccinations.

Take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) if you get COVID-19 symptoms โ€“ or every two days, if someone in your household has COVID-19.

If you get COVID-19:
๐Ÿ‘‰ register your RAT result
๐Ÿ‘‰ stay home until youโ€™re well again
๐Ÿ‘‰ wear a mask for 7 days after your test
๐Ÿ‘‰ avoid visiting hospitals, aged care or disability care for 7 days after your test, unless you are receiving care
๐Ÿ‘‰ ask household members to closely monitor symptoms.

You should always wear a mask if required by a healthcare provider, venue, or household.

Flu symptoms and Covid symptoms can mimic each other, so for the safety of our doctors and staff we ask anyone with flu, cold or Covid symptoms to book for a Telehealth appointment.

The flu season is upon us! Are you prepared by knowing the symptoms?

The common ones are:
๐Ÿ‘‰ fever
๐Ÿ‘‰ cough
๐Ÿ‘‰ sore throat
๐Ÿ‘‰ fatigue
๐Ÿ‘‰ loss of smell
๐Ÿ‘‰ aches and pains
๐Ÿ‘‰ headache

If you have any of these symptoms, stay at home to stop the spread of the flu. Please call your GP or 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) if your symptoms get worse.

Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza. Influenza vaccines are now free for all Queenslanders aged six months and over.

This week we observe World Immunisation Week.

According to https://www.immunisationcoalition.org.au, 36% of the adult population had a flu shot last year.

Less than 1/3 of men under the age of 65 plan to get a flu shot this year
3/4s of adults expect a worse influenza season than in the last 2 years.

There are enhanced flu vaccines for older people this year.

Background:

Influenza, commonly known as โ€˜the fluโ€™, is a respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. It can be a life-threatening infection in certain people, and should never be confused with the common cold. Severe disease may also occur in otherwise healthy children and young adults.

Vaccination against influenza is recommended for all Australians who are 6 months of age or older. Influenza vaccines available in Australia offer a high degree of protection against seasonal illness and the severe consequences of influenza.

Influenza vaccine is free for children under 5, people 65 or older, indigenous people, pregnant women, and anyone with serious underlying health conditions, under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

Are you suffering any of the symptoms of dehydration? Remembering to keep your water intake up can be difficult especially in this funny weather. Hereโ€™s some good advice from Queensland Health.

When your body doesn't receive enough water to work properly, it goes into a state of dehydration. ๐Ÿ’ง

Dehydration can become quite dangerous, as it places extra stress on your vital organs and makes your heart work harder to pump blood. ๐Ÿซ€

To avoid this, keep up your daily intake of water by drinking small amounts of water regularly throughout the day. โœ”๏ธ

Adults should be aiming for between 2-2.5L per day, whereas children should drink around 1-2L.
