Combining cuddle therapy with counselling has been a natural progression after spending many years as a counsellor, doula/traditional midwife, massage therapist, dancer and reiki practitioner. What I found most rewarding about these professions was the human connection. I found a hug, a held hand, a loving touch, could cut through so much pain, hurt, and loneliness to help a person feel safe and n
urtured like nothing else could. The couples I helped in birth work thrived and had the best experiences when they trusted that I would hold them and hold the space when it got challenging. At the beginning of a session I asked my clients if they hugged and if they needed one. Those that did at the beginning would go into the session feeling more grounded and safe. Those who didn’t want one to start with knew that it was an option, and I found that by the end of the counselling session 90% would reach out for that touch that cuts through so much of the hurt. Allowing people the ability to receive some loving platonic touch heals and nourishes the human body and spirit. My mission in life is to enjoy this human experience on a day to day basis and part of this experience is connection, safety, and love for the people that come into my life. At the basic core of being human lies the need for community, friendship, family, connections with people, the earth and the creatures we share this place with. We all deserve and need this in our lives to feel nourished as a human being.
