🧐Pneumatic Pumps!
There are SO many out there on social media feeds, as a Lymphatic Therapist even I get overwhelmed. Some questions to ask yourself …
💚Is it TGA approved?
There are only 2 pumps in the Australian market that I'm aware of that are TGA approved. Lympha Press being one of them and the one we use in clinic.
💚Have you consulted a Lymphoedema Therapist?
When you have a compromised Lymphatic System, you want to ensure you have the right product for your needs. Are the settings and garment right for you?
💚Have you got the right garment?
We have the Thigh High, Pant & Jacket garments in our clinic. We use the one best for your needs. Lympha Press also has a pre & post 'opening' sequence at the inguinal and axilla nodes (depending on the garment) , which can be quite beneficial. For lower body we try and use the pant if we can - the less 'pieces', the less chance of fluid pooling in the lower abdomen/pubis area. The chambers are overlapping, giving a more comfortable feel.
💚Have you been shown how to open your lymphatic system pre and post pumping?
This is so important to ensure you are not just moving fluid from one area to another. Too many people have come to me over the years with an extended belly, due to trying pumps or wearing garments, without being guided on how best to drain the lymphatic system with compression.
💚Pumps, when used right, are a fantastic tool to help manage Lymphoedema and Lipoedema. With the wrong product, it is easy to cause more harm than good.
This is the reason why we have a pump room in clinic
If you have been curious if a pump is for you, our pump room is a great place to start!
Cheers
Lisa
