When we’re stressed/overwhelmed it typically boils down to a few things:

💪We’re trying to influence things we can’t control.

🤔We’re not taking enough responsibility and control for things within our control.

We are under resourced or have reached our capacity to manage the stressful event or situation👨‍🔧

🧠We’re trying to resolve a problem that really needs us to emotionally cope better with it rather than try to eliminate or change it 💚

If behaviours are not fully under our voluntary control, even though we may be highly motivated to tackle them, we may not actually perform the behaviour due to environmental or psychosocial factors getting in our way.

Need help to find ways to reduce stress and overwhelm? Feel free to reach out and DM me ;) 🙋‍♀️😊

Whole & Healthy Podcast, with Peggy White, a holistic nutritionist living in Victoria, on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada!

Peggy adopted a vegetarian diet when she was just 13 after being grossed out by the look and idea of eating meat, despite growing up with parents and five siblings who were all meat eaters. Having not received a great deal of support from her family on being vegetarian and living meat-free, Peggy became a budding self-educated nutritionist at a very young age.

In 2016, Peggy was experiencing quite severe gastrointestinal distress and sought all kinds of help to solve her symptoms and seek a diagnosis for her health concerns. She got so sick she was losing weight, hardly eating, and feeling full after just small amounts of food.

Peggy persisted with getting help and was eventually diagnosed with Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth, aka SIBO. After receiving a short dose of treatment, Peggy recovered and has never looked back.

Indeed, her journey into plant-based living took her into the wonderful world of whole food plant-based living, and she now supports people with many gut health issues, as well as chronic mental and physical diseases such as diabetes and depression.

Peggy can be contacted via her website at www.guthealthy.ca

I guess you may have heard about a whole food plant based diet but not quite sure yet what it would entail?

Perhaps you know someone who transitioned to eating a whole food plant based lifestyle and reported great health benefits by doing so?

Maybe you have your own chronic health concern, and want to adopt a whole food plant based diet to manage/reverse inflammation and/or disease, or support the health and welfare of the planet or animals?

Here are 8 great ways to dip your toes in the shallows and learn more about adopting a whole food plant based diet.

Have you heard? Reversing hypertention can really be done quite naturally?!

When you think of high blood pressure, do you think of inactivity, eating unhealthily, drinking or smoking too much, or suffering insomnia?

Maybe you think it's a disease we get in our senior years? For most of us, I expect we don't even think about it at all since we have no signs or symptoms to suggest we should, right?

Hypertension is a serious medical condition and an early sign that something more serious could be going on. It significantly increases our risks of heart, brain, kidney, and other diseases and is a major cause of premature deaths globally (WHO).

Some people only get high blood pressure when they go to see their doctor or health professional and this is a psychological phenomenon known as 'Whitecoat Syndrome' where our nervousness or anxiety surrounding the doctor's surgery or hospital gets the better of us and our blood pressure increases quite suddenly and out of the ordinary.

A recent study posted to the journal 'Hypertension', noted that somewhere between 15 and 30 percent of people with high blood pressure at the doctor’s surgery might be affected by white coat syndrome.

However, this theory needs to be checked out more thoroughly to make sure we don't have an underlying health problem that lies undetected until we see a health professional so we associate the high blood pressure to seeing the doctor when it happens other times but we're just not aware of it.

I'd never had to think about my blood pressure up until my 50's. I did all the things expected of someone who should have normal blood pressure i.e., I ate a vegan diet, I exercised every day, I was normal weight, I didn't smoke, and drank alcohol in moderation. I was the epitome of health, some would say.

However, I was just touching 50, dealing with a lot of stress, and had recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, before I acknowledged that my blood pressure was indeed abnormally high a lot of the time and not due to White Coat Syndrome!

I recognised that the combination of having an underlying chronic inflammatiory disease, high stress, and eating a processed vegan diet high in salt, sugar and fat, were the reasons for my blood pressure being high. These were all things I could have taken more control of much earlier if I had known the symptoms!

Changes to health-related behaviours such as maintaining a healthy weight, adopting a healthy whole food plant-based diet naturally low in salt, sugar and fat, getting a good chunk of restorative sleep each night, managing our stress, incorporating physical activity into each day, and having better control of any underlying disease, are all effective evidence-based strategies in reversing hypertension naturally!

Data from the AHA scientific statement on obesity and CVD reported that fat deposition in the myocardium results in insulin resistance, re

Why "Lust" can be a bit of a devil for causing dietary change failure.

Experiencing a strong desire or "lust" for food while on a diet is common and can stem from a combination of physical, psychological, and emotional factors.

Caving into our cravings can mean the diet won't be running as it should and progress could take much longer to achieve your goals. Depending on what the craving is, it could also be even more damaging for your health to venture too far off piste.

There are many misconceptions about what it means to be vegan. Veganism is much more than eating a sustainable diet, it's a way of life and requires ongoing vigilence to maintain it! Learn more

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment.
