Perfect birth story given our November topic of caesarean birth - whether it's a planed or unplanned c-section it is still possible to make decisions and have choices for birth, helping to have a positive experience - because caesarean births are also beautiful births!!

The moment you came into this world... I didn't have a natural VBAC like I had planned but I still had an empowering birth experience.
I had so many amazing positive experiences that I will focus on rather than the things that didn't go to plan.

- I had the labour I imagined (although long) spent half at home half at the hospital in a peaceful environment with dim lights, music and essential oils.
- I managed to remain in a calm state without the use of pain relief for the majority of the labour (until the very end)
- I was surrounded by amazing support people - Dan and my doula Nicole. I really couldn't have done it without them by my side.
- When things started not going to plan I managed to remain calm and I was able to make peace with the process knowing that I did everything that I could to have my ideal birth
- Even though it ended in an emergency c-section we were still able to make choices for it to be as 'gentle' as possible - lowering the drapes for the moments when Albee came out, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin contact on the operating table and vaginal seeding in an attempt to expose him to some of the bacteria he missed out on through the birth canal.

When my first birth experience ended in an emergency c-section I felt devastated and like a failure but this time was much different. There were definitely some heavy moments and tears shed but I will not let these take away from the positive experience.
It was one of the toughest things I have ever done but I have never felt so strong and so proud of myself.

Things don't always go to plan so it's important to prepare for the possibility when it doesn't and I know now that having a drug free vaginal birth is not the only way to have a positive birth experience
