🤍 Week 9 Update 🤍
It’s been a crazy kind of week. The there were moments outside with friends & the Easter Bunny, and for a little while it felt like they could breathe… like things were light again.
But the truth is, behind those moments, this week has been really hard.
The bond between siblings is something truly special, and watching Tessa & Remy together is just that. The love, the care, the way Remy shows up for his little sister… it’s quiet, it’s constant, and it’s incredibly beautiful. 🤍
This week we learned that Tessa has stress fractures in her hips. These aren’t your typical injuries… they’re called insufficiency fractures, where bones that have already been weakened by cancer and treatment begin to crack under normal, everyday movement. It means something as simple as standing or walking is now incredibly painful.
The team is planning an infusion before her next immunotherapy to help strengthen her bones, which will mean an extra days in hospital added to everything else.
On top of that, it’s been back and forth to hospital again… her lines stopped working, more visits, more checks, and by Friday her blood counts had dropped, meaning more blood and platelet transfusions and high temps came back, Tessa, Renee & Remy remain in hospital since Friday, hoping for her fevers to stop.
Right now, being upright is extremely painful for Tessa. The only real relief she gets is laying flat with heat packs. Her pain medication has already been pushed to the highest dose, but she’s still hurting. So Renee does what mums do… she adapts. Pillows in the trolley, making a little bed so Tessa can lay flat while being moved around the hospital, because even walking is just too much.
And then, in the middle of all of this, something beautiful happened.
A surprise was left at the 5C Oncology reception… a gift bag from another oncology family, just for Tessa. Inside was her favourite animal - a capybara – and a hand made card🥹🤍
In a place that can feel so heavy, these small acts of kindness mean everything.
We keep going. We keep showing up. And we keep holding onto the moments of light, no matter how small they feel.
If you’ve been following along, supporting, sharing, donating… please know it matters more than we can ever put into words.
