Do you ever look at a piece of driftwood on the beach and wonder about its story?

This one caught my eye today, resting on the rocks at Bargara Beach.

It's probably been through storms, tides, and who knows how many jellyfish stings (metaphorically speaking) before stopping in this sunny spot for me to find.

Kind of like people, right?

Life tosses us around a bit, smooths out our rough edges, and sometimes we end up somewhere completely different to where we thought we would be.

But still exactly where we are meant to be.

I guess you could say this piece of driftwood reminded me that no matter how far we drift, we always wash up where we need to again.

Have you ever walked into a place and instantly felt at peace?

For me, it was always this tiny gem of a store: Crystal Earth in Russell Street, West End.

I lived in Brisbane for some 15 years, many of them in West End. And every time I walked past this little wonderland, I would come up with an excuse to step inside.

"I'll just grab a box of incense..." Even though I already had enough nag champa at home to smoke out a small temple.

But that's the magic of this place. It wasn't about what I bought. It was about how it felt. The colours, the vibe, the crystals, the scent of sandalwood and patchouli, the soft hum of something sacred in the air. It had character. The kind you can't fake in a big shopping centre. The kind you only find when people genuinely care about creating a space of spirit and heart.

Every visit reminded me that peace isn't found in far-off retreats or in the latest spiritual fad (I'm looking at you sacred ceremonial cacao!).

Sometimes it's right here, tucked between a bookcase of tarot card decks and tables of tumble stones in a little shop on a Brisbane street.

FYI - Crystal Earth is at Shop 2 / 71 Russell Street, West End QLD 4101.

Imagine living so close to nature that the sky itself has a voice. 🌌
When author Laurens van der Post lived among the Bushmen of the Kalahari, they once asked him: “Why can’t you hear the stars?”
When he admitted he could not, they pitied him. To them, being cut off from the sounds of nature wasn’t just unusual—it was a sign of deep spiritual illness.
Think about that. For most of human history, people treated rivers, winds, animals, and stars as companions, not objects. The world was alive, speaking, singing.
Today? We often treat nature as silent—something separate, a resource to use.
But what if the silence is not out there? What if the Earth is still speaking, and it’s us who have forgotten how to listen? 🌍✨

This Pandanus tree at Bargara has the best seat in the house. It's rooted, grounded, and basically living its best life staring out at the ocean all day. Not a bad gig at all.

It is the last week of winter in this part of the world (Australia) and you can already feel Spring sneaking in. The mornings have that magic mix I love. There is just enough chill to wake you up and just enough sun to stop you complaining about it.

Still far too cold for a morning swim for most, unless you're one of those sub zero creatures who genuinely enjoys turning blue. For the rest of us mortals, the ocean will be back on the menu in a few more weeks.

Sometimes I think the lesson from mornings like this is simple: stop overcomplicating life. Notice the light on the water, feel the air on your skin, and take a tip from the Pandanus: plant yourself where you belong and enjoy the view.

I have found this quiet bend in the Burnett River overlooking Fairymead where I like to stop during the week.

Nothing exciting happens here. I literally just sit. I watch the way the sunlight plays across the water, the slow drift of clouds and the occasional passing of a bird or two overhead.

Some days the world is noisy, even here. It is usually a tractor in the paddock behind me chugging away, but it never disturbs me.

It kind of reminds me that life hums along whether we are paying attention or not.

This is not about "switching off" or running away. It's about being, finding a moment to yourself, and letting the mind rest in the same way the river in front of me rests between tides.

Twenty minutes is enough. Twenty minutes to remember the quiet you seek isn't out there on a distant mountain or needing to be unlocked at some expensive weekend workshop.

It is already here, waiting, if you give it the time, space and patience.

Sometimes we can spend so much time searching outside ourselves for answers, meaning, signs or validation when the truest wonder is already within us.

It's not hidden by the world. It's hidden only by the chatter and the noise we let into our own minds.

If you sit quietly with yourself, without judgement, without distraction, you might start to notice it.

It's that deep, steady feeling that has been there all along.

It's not about being perfect, or "high vibration," or any of those trendy terms. It's simply you in all your unmasked, unfiltered, and real glory.

And when you find it, I promise what you find inside will amaze you.

Do you ever think there is something unique about a winter sunset that stills the soul?

The air is crisp, the sky is quiet and filled with colour. Even time itself seems to soften.

These are my two kids playing on these ancient black rocks, shaped by tide and time.

I had a thought about how fleeting yet eternal moments like this really are. Their laughter and shouts echoed against the dusk, bare feet on stone that has been here since the dinosaurs. No phones, no electronic devices. Just curiosity, freedom, and the kind of presence that reminds me why I do the work I do.

Spirit often speaks loudest in the quiet. Not in grand signs or thunderous messages, but in the stillness of an evening, in the innocence of children playing. That is where you hear it. It is a whisper in the heart that says “This is life. Be here for it.”

This moment is about as spiritual as it gets.

This is how the universe whispers (and occasionally yells) at you.

Many people often say to me, "I keep asking the universe for signs and I never get anything."

Would you like my advice? Stop looking for a skywriter in the clouds or a talking animal. Spirit doesn't do big and bold Hollywood type of entrances. They prefer a more subtle approach. Things like a grandmother whispering your name from another room, usually when you are elbows deep in a sink of dirty dishes or shouting at the cat to stop scratching the lounge chair.

The universe is always communicating, often in clever and sometimes comical ways. The real question is are you actually listening? Or are you too busy talking over it with your own overthinking?

Case in point: One day I desperately needed a blue key tag for a set of house keys I just had cut. I kept telling myself, "Don't forget the key tag."

Naturally, I forgot said key tag. I drove across town grumbling and groaning to myself about my own mental incompetence. I reach my next destination and pull into the supermarket carpark, open the car door, and there, on the ground in front of me, like a gift from the spirit world itself, is a blue key tag. Exactly the type of key tag I had forgotten to buy.

Coincidence? Maybe. But in my world, that is a big spiritual mic drop.

Then there was the time I wanted to go to Canberra to visit the National Library of Australia to read historical archives about a woman in spirit named Marjorie Young (the person circled in the attached picture).

Flights to Canberra and back again were too expensive for me, so I gave up. A few weeks later, American Express sent me a "thanks for being you" gift for having an Amex card: a free return flight anywhere in Australia. Where did I go? You guessed it correctly: Canberra. And yes, Marjorie was waiting.

The spirit world really does love a heart-stopping entrance. They just use email promos now.

Spirit doesn't need you meditating in a cave, fasting on a mountain, or paying hundreds of dollars to have someone chant and bang drums next to your head at a weekend workshop. They will talk to you while you are in the shower, at Coles, or stuck in traffic on the way to work.

Your job isn't to chase signs like you are on some ghostly Easter egg hunt. Your job is to live, to be present, and to pay attention when something tugs at your awareness, taps your shoulder, or drops a blue plastic key tag at your feet.

Stop demanding. Stop analysing. Stop overthinking. You will miss the magic when you try to make it logical.

Signs aren't always grand or poetic. Sometimes they look like number plates, a repeating song in a playlist set on shuffle, or weird coincidences that make you pause and say, "Wait a minute here..."

That "wait a minute" thought is where spirit lives.

That is where love slips through.

That is where your people find you.

So breathe. Let go. Live your life. And if you get a nudge from spirit, just trust it.

Even if it's just about buying a blue key tag.

There is something oddly hypnotic about wind chimes. Each one has its own quirky personality that makes them a bit like people. Some are gentle and sweet; others sound like a drunken fairy tripping over a seashell.

This one was swaying in a casuarina tree made from sea glass, driftwood, coral, shells, and probably a few of those deep ocean secrets.

To me wind chimes don't just chime, they tell stories. The kind of stories you don't rush. The kind you feel in your heart and in your belly, not read with your eyes or heard with your ears.

I have always had this thing with wind chimes. They have forever been distracting me in the best ways. I will stand there like some overgrown toddler at a play mobile, totally mesmerised. And before I know it, I am off somewhere else entirely. Not in my body, but definitely in soul.

We don't always need profound symbols or rare cosmic signs. Sometimes, Spirit can just show up as a bit of string and some broken beach stuff, making music in the wind and reminding you to bloody slow down for a bit.

No, I didn't take it home with me. It belongs right there where it is, telling its sea stories to the breeze. I reckon that's its job. Mine was just to notice.

This is my little corner inside the Bundy Yoga Studio on Bourbong Street, where I hold in-person mediumship and psychic readings.

I am here on select weeknights and weekends at the moment. By appointment only and when the stars align.

And by "stars" I mean when Sam says the studio is free.

The energy here? Calm. Clear. Absolutely gorgeous.

During the day the birds outside do half the sound healing, and the sunlight pours in like the universe itself remembered to send a hug.

That photo on the table? That is Marjorie Young. Circa 1914. She is a very real part of my spiritual journey. You can read more about her (and me) in my blog article. Link is at bottom.

This space isn't about bells, whistles, or pretending Spirit is a genie. It's about truth, healing, and sometimes a message from a passed over uncle who still thinks his jokes were funny.

Spoiler: sometimes they really are.

Thank you to the lovely Sam for trusting me with this sacred little nook of calm in the middle of Bundaberg. I am beyond grateful.

If you are ever curious about what Spirit might want to whisper, this is where I listen.

One chair for you, one for me, and the whole other side just hanging out in the room.

And possibly Marjorie judging my posture.
