Sleep as Sacred Medicine ✨
In Ayurveda, sleep is one of the four pillars of health alongside nourishment, lifestyle and energy management.
But during perimenopause and menopause, sleep becomes even more essential… and often more elusive.
When sleep is disturbed, symptoms can intensify
✨ hot flushes
✨ night sweats
✨ anxiety or racing thoughts
✨ irritability and mood swings
✨ fatigue and hormonal imbalance
From an Ayurvedic lens, this is often a sign of aggravated Vata and Pitta , too much movement, heat, and stimulation in the nervous system.
Sleep is not just rest, it is hormonal repair.
It is when the body recalibrates cortisol, supports progesterone, cools internal heat, and restores emotional steadiness.
As the sun sets, our bodies are designed to soften with it.
Late nights, bright lights, scrolling, and stimulation push us out of rhythm, keeping the nervous system in “doing” mode when it longs to receive.
🌙 Evening self-care becomes medicine:
• warm, grounding meals
• dim lighting and slower pace
• gentle breath or restorative shapes
• magnesium baths or foot soaks
• a calming spiced milk or herbal tea
In Ayurveda, night is governed by Kapha dosha, heavy, nourishing, stabilising energy. When we align with it, sleep deepens and hormones feel more supported.
✨ Rest is not weakness.
✨ Sleep is not optional.
✨ Deep rest is a radical act of selfcare in midlife.
Tonight, let yourself soften.
Let your body feel safe enough to exhale.
Let sleep hold you, not as escape, but as healing.
