I get it. And honestly, after being a mum for 12 years I’ve learnt that we need to be gentle on ourselves. Hyper-focusing on healthy or perfect can be more damaging than we realise.
There’s something I keep seeing in this space. And that’s the push toward extremely restrictive approaches to starting solids. Avoiding fruit. Avoiding vegetables. Avoiding all grains. And when I hear mums telling me they feel guilty for giving their baby a mashed banana, my heart breaks a little.
There’s no place for mum-guilt.
Sure, there are things we can do to support our baby’s health. But it’s all about balance.
Biology is individual. It is ever-evolving.
And our children are constantly teaching us something new about what they need. Rigid ideals have their place in research. But in real life, when you’re juggling sleep deprivation, a reactive baby with a thousand decisions to make before 9am?
Strict thinking can quietly steal the joy out of motherhood. I want you to enjoy motherhood without the pressure.
