Most mums are handed an elimination diet, told to get to a baseline, and then nothing.

No guidance on what comes next.

No plan to address why the reactions are happening.

No path to getting foods back in.

And in the meantime, the elimination diet itself carries a cost.

Nutritional gaps, the mental load of restriction, and real impacts on breastfeeding goals and maternal health that rarely get acknowledged.

An elimination diet does something important. It reduces immediate inflammation and gives the immune system a chance to rest. But it was never designed to be the whole solution. It removes the trigger and doesn’t touch the reason the immune system is reacting in the first place.

The root cause sits underneath the food itself. In the gut lining, the microbiome, the immune system, and nutritional status. Until those are addressed, the elimination diet has nowhere to go.

No exit plan.

No path toward reintroduction.

Just ongoing avoidance with no end in sight.

What actually moves the needle is finding what is driving your baby’s unique reactions and treating them accordingly.

And that’s exactly what we cover in Decoded.

Still reacting after elimination? Still no real answers? The issue usually isn’t the food list. It’s everything underneath it.

Gut health. Microbiome imbalances. Nutritional deficiencies. These are the things that keep getting missed — and they’re exactly what your baby’s symptoms are pointing to when you know how to read them.

Swipe through to see what I mean.

And if you want to go deeper — I’m running a free live workshop, Decoded, on Monday 30th March at 10:30am AEDT where we do exactly this: read the symptoms, understand the story, and find the root cause.

I’m only running this for free once.

If I was doing it all over again - even as an allergy mama I still would rush to introduce all the allergens.

Before I touched a single allergen, I’d spend the first two weeks of solids building the gut foundation — because a well-nourished gut is a more tolerant gut.

That means meat stock, bone marrow, low-reactive vegetables, and small amounts of gentle fruits like dragonfruit, blueberries, and papaya. Foods that feed the microbiome, support the gut lining, and give the digestive system a chance to mature (a little more) before we ask it to handle the top allergens.

Then, slowly and intentionally, we’d begin.

Egg and peanut first - because these are the two top allergens that we need to introduce early.

Tree nuts around 7 months. Fish, soy, sesame — each one introduced carefully, with time to observe.

Dairy around 9 months. Wheat closer to 10–11 months, starting with sourdough. Shellfish last.

If my baby started to react to any foods or top allergens I would slow down, support my baby’s gut and immune system, and then continue.

Save this one. You’ll want to come back to it. 🤍

Drop any questions below — I’ll answer every single one.

I have recently had a lot of people reaching out asking me if they should start their baby on solids?

Most of these mamas have had babies at around 4.5 months of age. They have all had someone tell them it’s time to start solids.

So I’ve decided to turn this into a post. It’s a tricky subject to cover because I don’t want anyone feeling bad about starting their baby on solids early. We are always doing our best as mamas. I even started my son on solids at 4.5 months (12 years ago). So please know this post comes with a lot of understanding. 🥰

Maybe your baby has been eyeing off your food. Maybe you’ve been told that starting early will help with their gut issues or weight gain.

Here’s what I need you to know first.

Age alone is not a readiness sign — and reaching for your food starts at around 3 months. That’s a developmental milestone, not a hunger cue.

What we’re actually waiting for:
✅ Sitting with minimal support + strong head control. This reduces the risk of chocking but also indicates that the digestive system isn’t squished.
✅ The tongue-thrust reflex has gone (they’re no longer automatically pushing food back out)
✅ Genuine interest in food — reaching, mouth opening, tracking your fork
✅ Able to move food to the back of the mouth and swallow
✅ Around 6 months of age (when their gut is a little more developed).

The reason timing matters so much comes down to gut maturity.

At 4.5 months, your baby’s gut microbiome is still low in diversity, their stomach pH is more alkaline, their protein-digesting enzymes are limited, and their gut lining is more permeable. That means undigested proteins can pass through before being properly broken down — and that’s exactly where allergy and reactivity risk begins.

Even ASCIA now recommends starting allergens around 6 months. The research on the gut microbiome points the same way.

And if you’ve already started solids and you’re reading this thinking “oh no” — please don’t. You’re doing great. It is never too late to support the gut. 🤍

Is your baby about to start solids? Drop your questions below.

Your baby’s sleep symptoms are clues about what is going on in their body.

Of course there will always be exceptions and nuances that require further investigation.

But start here ‼️

Comment TIRED and I’ll send you my podcast episode where I break it all down.

Oh healthy baby clinic is closed from the 19th of December for 4 weeks.

We wish you a merry Xmas and holiday break ❤️

We won’t be checking emails until after the break as we will be with our families and resetting our nervous system.

I’ll still be popping in here for some fun shares.

Pending protocols will be sent out by this evening 🥰

Big love 🌸 and even more love to those who are grieving during time ❤️

The holiday season can be especially hard for allergy mums. It isn’t just about missing out on certain food — it’s the planning, the over explaining and feeling like boundaries are constantly being pushed. It’s the quiet grief wishing it was “normal” for you and your child.

Behind every RSVP is a mental checklist:
Is it safe?
Will I need to bring all our own food?
Will I have to explain our child’s needs again — and will they be respected?
What if they react?

Because while you’re enjoying your Christmas feast an allergy parent is carrying a huge mental and emotional load that is mostly invisible.

So if you’re hosting this year — here are a few things you could ask your allergy friend or family member.

Here are a few simple things that really help allergy families:

“What can I do to help your child feel safe and included?”
“Would it be easier if I labelled the dishes or placed them out of reach?”
“Are there any allergens I should avoid using?”
“Want to bring a plate you know is safe?”
“Would you like me to set aside a portion before the rest is served?”
“Should we skip the shared platters this year?”
“Can I let the other guests know not to bring certain things?”
“Is there a backup treat I can keep on hand for your little one?”

Is there anything you would add? Comment below.

None of this is about being perfect. It about keeping conversations open and knowing that allergy families don’t want to “difficult or picky” they are just keeping their family safe.

Let’s make space for allergy families so they don’t feel like an afterthought at the table.

This is what inclusion looks like and THIS is what the holiday season is truly about. And it matters more than you know.

Tag a fellow allergy parent who deserves some backup this Christmas — or share this as a guide for your loved ones.

You feel like you’ve tried everything already to improve your child’s food allergy.

- you’ve supplemented with vitamin D

- you’ve started them on a probiotic

- you’ve given them the “gut-healing” foods

- you’ve done the skin prick test and started them on the ladder

But nothing seems to be improving.

The reactions are just as bad. Their skin is still showing up with hives and their sleep is still disrupted.

You’re stuck in survival mode and wondering if things will ever change.

Asking yourself “when will they finally grow out of their allergy?”

You aren’t doing anything wrong.

What’s missing is a holistic view on the entire health of the gut, immune system and nutrition.

We need to understand every factor involved in your child’s food allergies. Not just generalised advice.

If you resonated with this post please know you aren’t alone and your child’s allergies aren’t your fault.

Follow for more information on the root cause of allergies and how you can start reversing them holistically.
