GOOD OR BAD, HARD TO SAY
A girl who believed in fairytales...
That belief carried all the way through as an adult, looking at the world through rose coloured glasses. Until one day there was a tug of war between her heart and her head, her heart closed up and her head said NO, I don’t believe anymore.
Then I remembered an ancient parable I came across recently and it reminded me it’s not the dreamer in me that is the problem, it’s the attachment to the outcome.
I feel this is so applicable and useful during these different times we are in right now so I had to share...
The ancient parable is about a farmer who lost his horse. The neighbours came over to say, "Oh, that's too bad." And the farmer said, "Good or bad, hard to say." Days later, the horse returns and brings with it seven wild horses. And neighbours come over to say, "Oh, that's so good!" And the farmer just shrugs and says, "Good or bad, hard to say." The next day, the farmer's son rides one of the wild horses, is thrown off and breaks his leg. And the neighbours say, "Oh, that's terrible luck." And the farmer says, "Good or bad, hard to say." Eventually, officers come knocking on people's doors, looking for men to draft for an army, and they see the farmer's son and his leg and they pass him by. And neighbours say, "Ooh, that's great luck!" And the farmer says, "Good or bad, hard to say."
Whilst I never want to lose the optimist in me, letting go of the craving or attachment to an outcome is so important and liberating, instead remember just to observe.
