Am I drinking enough water?
As a general rule, women need about 2L/day and men need around 2.5-3L/day, however this depends on a lot of different factors, including exercise duration/intensity. A lot of fluid can be lost through sweat for high-intensity exercise such as Coaching Zone classes, and it’s important to factor this into your day's fluid intake!
Remember that thirst isn’t always the best indicator of needing more fluid – by the time you are feeling thirsty you may already be dehydrated. Some common signs of dehydration include:
· Fatigue
· Headaches
· Mood changes
· Weakness
· Muscle cramps
If you struggle to drink enough water, here are some simple tips to help keep your fluids up. Flavouring water with lemon, lime, infused teabags or no sugar cordial such as Diet Rite can be a handy way to make water more palatable and increase your intake. Make sure you carry around a reusable bottle with you, and set reminders if need be!
