Ugly but delicious. My diet is in no way perfect and I don't expect it to be.. but one thing I always make sure I buy organic is dried fruit. Don't be put off by the colour. These dried apricots taste even better than their non-organic friends without all the preservatives they use to keep them orange.

Most supermarkets and health food stores like my local have plenty of options. Great for a sweet treat or chopped up in some granola or trail mix?

This time of year its colder and we are getting more and more rugged up and getting less sun, and less of the sunshine vitamin, Vitamin D.

☀️This vitamin is made from cholesterol in your skin when it’s exposed to the sun. That’s why getting enough sunlight is very important for maintaining optimal vitamin D levels. We sometimes call it the sunshine vitamin. So.. if there’s sun you should be right.. well yes but there’s many interfering factors:

☀️A lack of sunshine available to you (it's often limited in winter months and then we layer up and don’t expose enough skin!) and the time you spend outside with a large portion of your body exposed. It’s been an additional challenge with lockdown in Melbourne!

☀️Where you live also comes into (it might just rarely be a sunny place) and the further away from the equator you live the less UVB light reaches the earth! Crazy right!

☀️The clothes you wear (here again, the layering up, but also covering up for personal or religious choices.

☀️The colour of your skin: people with fairer skin may be avoiding the sun as they tend to burn more. If you have a darker skin tone you need more sunshine exposure to produce Vitamin D. Melanin is the substance in skin that makes it dark. It "competes" for UVB with the substance in the skin that kick-starts the body's vitamin D production.

☀️The use of sunscreen. I’m not saying don’t use it, but as it decreases UVB light (and burning) then it may decrease Vitamin D synthesis.

☀️Being overweight: increased body fat stores Vitamin D so you may need more!
