And that's a wrap on the Occupational Therapy Mental Health Forum. 👏 Well done to for another successful conference. This was a wonderful program with so much variety and choice to hear from all the wonderful work that Occupational Therapists are contributing to in people's lives.

I'm especially excited about the shift in presentations in both the women's and perinatal and Infant mental health areas now showcasing more and more of the awesome contributions and supports that OTs are having for women, babies and families. It was a thrill to share some of my own reflections in that mix as well.

It's such a special profession that I'm honestly so proud to be apart of. Not only is it the professional learning experiences like these, but it's also the personal connections that I'm lucky enough to receive that enrich my life as well. Meeting some of the wonderful OTs that I meet up with online, in real life is such a wonderful thrill as it deepens our connections and support for each other. So pleased I came and was able to connect with each and everyone of you in some way!

For years now, I've been sharing private links to recordings I made for women and mothers who are looking to reconnect with their bodies. The deeper that I go I to my own mothering journey and in my support and space holding for mothers and women, I realise how important access to these practices are.
For my contribution to im starting off by offering a free recording for mothers. I've started to upload some of my recordings onto as this is often a much easier and more accessible way to access this when you need.

Today there is one there and this collection will slowly grow over time. I'd love for you to make some space to try this when you have a spare 10mins, and I'd love to hear which of the exercises within this recording resonated with you best?

To my dear little one,

Some mornings feel like a storm, don't they?

Cereal spills, toys scattered, and emotions running high.
I often find myself lost in the chaos, like a ship adrift at sea.
In those moments, I forget the power that I hold.

You, with your big eyes and tender heart - look to me for safety - like a lighthouse to guide you home.

And as this process rinses and repeats, I've learnt something important.

MY energy shapes YOUR world.
When I feel calm, you feel calm.
When I breathe deeply and find my anchor, I can guide you through the storms with me.

Sometimes I set the sails for the weather we are having, and sometimes I won't quite get it right, but know that when the waves of frustration crash around us, that we'll pause - take a deep breath and find our connection - together. We'll be a team, navigating life's waters, learning to organise our feelings, and share these with each other.

Know this, my dear; it's ok to have all the feelings. The small ones, the sudden ones, the drawn out ones and the BIG ones.
All are welcome.
We'll create space for them all, a space where all emotions are welcome.

With all my heart,

Your perfectly, imperfect Mum...

Are you looking to strengthen your connection with your child and better understand their emotional needs? Our abbreviated 6-week Circle of Security Parenting Program starting on October 28 offers a supportive space to do just that.

This program, grounded in decades of research, is designed to help parents better understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read their cues, respond to their needs, and support their emotional growth. By understanding these core concepts, you can help your child feel secure, which is the foundation for healthy relationships throughout life.

Apart of this course also creates space to work with you on regulating your own emotions, making it easier to stay calm and connected when parenting gets challenging. This dual focus on both parent and child helps create a more peaceful and nurturing home environment.

The Circle of Security approach is based on attachment theory, and it’s ideal for parents with children of any age who want to strengthen their bond, build emotional resilience, and develop a deeper sense of security for their child.

Limited spots available—register by October 26 to reserve your place!

Taking a moment to mark this milestone on the grid...
As I sit at the airport now waiting for my flight home, I'm quietly reflecting on the power of connecting, collaborating and celebration. My journey into support women with their transitions such as matrescence and menopause has seen me engaging in lots of learning, growth and honing my skills in a supported and compassionate environment. This weekend I've been able to take some time out to celebrate and connect with some of the people who've been with me on that journey for the past 12 months.

Over the past 12 months I've completed training in Perinatal and Infant mental health to support the layers that can sometimes sit deeper within our Matrescence stories.

I've been really passionate about championing the role that OTs can play in this space, ALONGSIDE other mental health professionals such as Social workers, Psychologists and Mental Health Nurses.

I'm excited to continue working with the and champion the role that Mental Health OTs can play collaboratively and the lens we can bring to support the many gaps that are still there in how we support parents and their families.

If you're an OT (or any mental health professional for that matter) who is interested in this space and want a supportive and collaborative place to learn and grow your skills in perinatal mental health. I can't recommend the Workforce Development program enough.

This past weekend has seen us gather for an in house PD day with an amazing line up of current research followed by a day with the public looking at the many areas of supports and focuses that can support new parents and their families.

It was also especially lovely to gather with the other graduates, our supervisors and the lovely Gidget staff from this program and make time and space to celebrate this milestone.

Also grateful to my partner for holding down the fort (and nailing the bookweek costumes) to enable me to step back and into this space to celebrate this milestone.

Excited to share that I've finally, finalised my trainings and am now a Motherhood Studies Practitioner. This training has been a journey and a half and I've loved every minute of it. I finished the theory at the end of 2023, but have taken my time to really digest and deepen my understanding of the layers of how motherhood is constructed and how are culture shapes mothering. As an Occupational Therapist I'm deeply interested in what's important for you, as a mother, but there is so much that influences your access, your emotions, your relationships with others and yourself and also who you are as a woman. Thanks so much for creating this course and this space for women to understand these things and I'm excited for how these influences will show up in my offerings and services for women and mothers in my community locally and online. ❤️

Becoming a mother is hard, but it is hard in different ways for different mothers. Here are some signs that you might benefit from the support of an Occupational Therapist (OT) who supports mothers:

🌻Daily Tasks: Balancing everyday activities while adjusting to life with a new baby.
🌻Routine Management: Figuring out your daily schedule and adjusting to new routines.
🌻Physical Health: Managing post-baby pains, especially in your back or hips, which can affect how you care for your little one. OTs can also help with pelvic changes, including menstruation and issues like incontinence and prolapse.
🌻Mental Health: Handling feelings of being overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed, so you can enjoy being a mom more.
🌻Mood Changes: Managing mood swings or feeling down for longer periods.
Self-Care: Making time to take care of yourself and finding ways to relax and recharge.
🌻Fatigue: Dealing with feeling tired all the time, so you can better care for yourself and your baby.
🌻Social Connection: Getting back into socializing and not feeling so alone.
🌻Community Engagement: Finding and joining groups for new moms or other community resources.
🌻Role Adaptation: Getting used to your new responsibilities and being confident in your new role as a mom.

The road to becoming a mother is unique, with each woman navigating her own blend of worry, joy, challenges, and constant adaptation.
OTs are masters at supporting this adaptation, helping you participate in what you need and want to do.

We listen, are curious, and help you understand what is meaningful. We then act as your accountability buddy to create a plan for doing things differently.

If you feel like you need a new perspective on a small or large challenge, maybe give an OT a try!

What a blast the past few days has been... As I'm waiting for the "redeye" flight home, I'm reflecting on what a diverse and wonderful profession I'm grateful to be apart of. I'm energised by sharing our workshop with Janelle from and speaking with many OTs about my poster and some of the work I've been doing in the Perinatal OT space. My brain has been stretched and flexed and new perspectives and considerations for the future are now loading....

How good are IRL chats and meet ups! Loved putting faces and hugs to names and am excited to keep the conversations going until next time!

My cup, OT heart and cooler weather fix cups are all full!

Perth really turned on the weather today for a fitting send off with and her amazing Nature OT crew! Lovely to make some new connections there and a special nature wand for my kiddos as a souvenir of my time here on Whadjuk Nyoongar country. Amazing place!

Im on my way! Janelle from and I had a wild idea last year to put forward a workshop around pelvic health and holy moly- to our surprise it got accepted.

I've also got a poster accepted about some of the ways I've been weaving and blending amazing somatic maternal healing perspectives into compassion focused perinatal OT support.

The threads of knowledge that modern day women can lean into is incredible....

Im excited at the innovative ways that OTs are showing up for women and I'm excited to share more about the ways that Ive been weaving my own flavours of OT into supporting the intersection of empowered mothering and reconnecting mothers with their bodyfulness. This poster feels like a big reflection of some of the ways that I've been showing up in my private practice and through the workforce development program at .

I'm starting to see where I can offer my own flavour of supports and how much it liberates women as they become mothers.

I'm also excited to be connecting with not only some wonderful OTs but am also low key pumped about exploring a new part of the world I've never been - and having a few good nights of sleep.

Grateful to my partner for stepping into the roles we normally share and supporting me to be in this place and be able to lean into this week.

See you in the stories and grid this week!
