Are there certain emotions you feel more comfortable with than others?
We like to feel "good"
There's nothing wrong with that
Nobody wants to feel "bad"
But who decides what's "good" and "bad"?
Somewhere along the way, you did.
You were shown that joy, happiness, compassion, excitement, empathy, love
are welcomed and encouraged..
On an ‘acceptable level’ of expression
An unspoken expectation to strive towards as your baseline
But what of the others?
Your anger, grief, jealousy, anxiety, despair, frustration, rage, disgust
Were you shown the same level of acceptance and encouragement to feel these important emotions too?
Likely not
our society and familial upbringing have role modeled and micromanaged us to package it all up neat & tidy
intellectualizing them rather than allowing the full expression to come & go
Repressed with a masked smile that it's all okay
But is it really?
You can’t let yourself be messy.. or raw in the authenticity of what you're feeling
It makes others uncomfortable
And you've been *trained* to orient your actions for others to accept and love you, conditionally
and now it feels like too much for you to go there.
So you leave it. Avoid it. Let it fester in the cage you've subconsciously locked them away in -
And then you find yourself wondering why you feel off.
Like what in front of you is never enough
But here’s the thing:
When you cut yourself off, go numb or collapse into the overwhelm of those “not good” feelings,
You’re doing the same for the feelings you desire to be feeling too...
Woman, you know the saying - "the only way out is through".
Your emotions have something to show you ~ will you open that doorway to your innerworld?
