Last week we had the pleasure of catching up with The Honourable Bridget Archer, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing. We took the opportunity to share our soon to be operating transition housing units for people who are in recovery from their mental health condition and are seeking arm's length support as they transition into fully independent living.

A number of people who use our services took the opportunity for some 1:1 time with the Minister, sharing their journey and experience of mental health and the service system as a whole. We are proud to be part of people's recovery journey and to support them to advocate for themselves and others for a more joined up system that respects and values the voice of people with lived experience.

ALT TEXT: Picture 2: A young person dressed in black with pocket chains and glasses on their head handing some advice they prepared called How To Help to Minister Archer who is reaching out to accept it. Both are smiling at the camera.

Last week, Tasmania’s Minister for Housing and Planning, Felix Ellis MP, officially opened Glenson Place in Claremont. Among the guests were Royce and Thea Fairbrother, Gaye Rutherford and Ally Mercer, Chair of Richmond Futures, who spoke at the event.

This purpose-built independent living property was developed through partnerships with The Fairbrother Foundation, its Fairbrother Charitable Trust and Homes Tasmania. This collaboration allows us to provide 24/7 support to NDIS participants living with mental illness in a modern property specifically designed to support individuals with mental illness and psychosocial disabilities.

The 14-unit property is the first project supported by the Fairbrother Charitable Trust and is named Glenson Place in honour of Thea and Royce Fairbrother’s son, Glen.

We are incredibly proud of the positive mental health benefits experienced by the participants living at Glenson Place.

“It’s like a hotel! Things are going really well at Glenson Place. The staff are brilliant and all residents are respectful. I think it’s wonderful. It’s great to have communal space and also privacy as well. I have settled into my new routine well and am looking forward to continue moving forward” – Tim (Richmond Futures independent living program participant)
