Trying Something New… and Feeling the Difference

Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time lifting weights, building strength slowly and consistently. Strength training has always been my foundation.

Recently I started Muay Thai training with Grant from Top Priority… and it has been such an amazing reset.

It’s one thing to feel strong in the gym.
It’s another thing to actually express that strength through movement.

Every session I’m noticing how the years of weight training have carried over, the power in my strikes, the stability through my hips, the control through my core, and the ability to keep moving when it gets hard.

Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights.
It’s about building a body that can do things.

Learning something new, challenging myself in a different way, and stepping outside my comfort zone has reminded me why training is so important.

Strength builds confidence.
Strength builds resilience.
Strength carries over into everything.

And honestly… it’s just really fun.

I didn’t feel like training today.

Body’s sore. Low energy. One of those days where everything in you says skip it.

But the plan was weights in the morning and a run at night.

Started the run in 35° heat… then out of nowhere it turned into torrential rain.

Honestly, it would’ve been very easy to turn around and go home.

But here’s the reality.

You can’t control the weather.
You can’t control feeling tired.
You can’t control being sore.

But you can control your actions.

And I refuse to let emotions decide whether I move forward or not.

Discipline is doing the work when you don’t feel like it.

Not every session is pretty.
Not every session feels good.

But every session moves you closer to the person you’re trying to become.

So I ran anyway.

You don’t train as hard as you think you do.

Today in staff training we ran goblet squats and push ups.

Simple movements.
But we coached anchor sets.

We pushed until reps slowed.
Until bracing mattered.
Until you had maybe 1–2 reps left.

Here’s the problem 👇

Most people think they train hard.

But they stop when:
• It burns
• It gets uncomfortable
• Their breathing picks up
• Their brain says “that’s enough”

That’s not failure.

That’s discomfort.

True training intensity lives close to technical failure.
Not breakdown.
Not sloppy.
Not ugly.

Just honest.

Reps can stay clean.
Controlled.
Strong.

But they should feel heavy.
They should slow down.
They should demand focus.

If every set feels smooth and easy…
You’re probably 4–6 reps away from growth.

And that gap?

That’s where results disappear.

At Move Right EP, we standardise intensity.
We use RIR.
We use RPE.
We coach the last few reps not just count them.
Because adaptation doesn’t care how tired you feel.

It responds to tension.

Train with intent.
Not ego.
Not comfort.

Intent.

Klay is making incredible progress following a Bilateral Hip Replacement!

Suffering from hip necrosis, he took the leap and got the replacement, flash forward a few months.

He is back to working, training hard and feeling better than ever!

His only regret is that he didn't do this sooner.

Well done Klay it's been great to be apart of your journey towards a better quality of life!

Today a chunk of our day was spent Canyoning with some of our family.

A great experience to challenge yourself, one that requires trust and gets you outside of your comfort zone.

Some of this involved junping from over 4m rocks, scaling waterfalls and then abseiling down a 30m one.
