Today, our team of FCA specialists underwent a training session to enhance our expertise in conducting Functional Capacity Assessments to the highest standard. We are committed to continuously expanding our knowledge to ensure you receive the exceptional service you deserve.

It has been a longstanding myth that FCAs can only be completed by OTs but in fact the NDIS guidelines stipulates that any suitably trained therapists can complete FCAs. If anyone, including NDIS planners, tell you that only OTs can do the job, perhaps ask them to provide proof supporting their claim. It’s unlikely that they’ll find such a restriction in the NDIS guidelines. If the FCA requires input from other health professionals, such as an OT, their input would be included in the report. There is no rule stating that only one therapist can complete the report—it can be a joint effort.

A participant is assessed in 6 life skill areas during a FCA. These areas are mobility, communication, social interaction, learning, self-care and self management. As you may be aware, OTs specialise in only 3 of the 6 areas whereas Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are mobility experts while Speech Pathologists specialise in communication, social interaction and learning.

So, why is it that it is of the belief that only OTs can do FCAs when the other 3 life skill areas are not within their speciality? The truth is allied health professionals are well aware of each others' expertise and have the knowledge to recognise impairments in any of these life skill areas. Once these impairments are detected, we then refer them on to the relevant allied health discipline (e.g. OTs recommend physiotherapy input when there is a mobility issue). This practice isn't new and has been ongoing for decades in the hospital setting within a multidisciplinary team.

With more therapists able to do FCAs, regardless of whether they are OTs, Physios or EPs, we are able to provide immediate availability which we know is essential!

As we wrap up an incredible 2024, it’s time to recharge and soak up the festive magic! 🎉 Our office will be closed from Tuesday 24 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, giving us all a moment to rest, reflect, and gear up for an even more amazing 2025.

🎉 What a way to wrap up the year! 🎄✨

Over the weekend, we had our annual end-of-year get-together, and even though some of our team were off enjoying early Christmas festivities, those of us who made it had an absolute blast! 🥳

We enjoyed a scrumptious BBQ meal 🍔🌭 and karaoke 🎤🎶.We even took the opportunity to throw a housewarming party for one of our team members who just moved into their beautiful new home! 🏡🎉 We learnt that it's Korean housewarming culture to gift household items such as toilet paper. Oh, and we also got to meet their their adorable 50kg fur baby! 🐾😍

Here’s to celebrating the wins, the laughs, and the wonderful people that make up our team. Bring on 2025! 🙌💫

🎄🐾 What a pawsome evening! 🐶✨

We were so honoured to be invited by the to their festive Christmas event at the stunning Hotel! It was their way of saying thank you for the donations we’ve made over the years — but honestly, we’re the grateful ones for all the incredible work they do for animals in need. 💖🐾

As HUGE animal lovers at Health Journey Partner, we couldn’t be prouder to support their tireless efforts! And speaking of animal lovers, we had the absolute pleasure of catching up with the wonderful Dr. Alan Lam — a rehabilitation specialist our founders had the pleasure of working with in the past. It was so heartwarming meeting his family, catching up, and learning about the incredible impact the RSPCA has made and will continue to make (all while adorable doggies ran around the room! 🐾🐕✨).

At Health Journey Partner, we’re not just about healthcare. We’re about heartcare. 💙 As a purpose-led NDIS registered provider, we’re passionate about giving back — especially to causes close to our hearts, like animal welfare. We donate 5% of our profits to charity. 🐾🐾

In August, we at Health Journey Partner had a fantastic day facilitating an interactive hydrotherapy session at the pool, where our exercise physiologist skillfully guided a patient through this experience. 💧✨

With the Olympics in full swing, we couldn’t resist joining the celebration! 🥇 We proudly took our place on the podium as a team, making the most of some nostalgic props for a bit of fun! 🎉
