Is politeness reason enough to get what you ask for?

Even as a kid we get rewarded for saying please rather than for expressing how we feel or the reason why we want something. Seems to stand to reason that a family or work culture that rewards politeness in effect is saying:

“You can have what you want if you present it well enough. “

Entitlement or a battle of wills is inevitable.

What if we all rewarded our kids, partners, friends and colleagues for their honesty instead of their politeness

I wonder how that might change things?
