These past few months I’ve had a heavy focus on supporting friends, being there for my daughters & providing space for a number of clients who have had to deal with unexpected trauma, illness, loss & grief. This got me thinking about human connection & how that translates into what I do as a therapist, who I am as a person & who I am as a mum.
Human connection & how we engage with one another has always been a big one for me. Respect, acceptance, gratitude, love & kindness towards one another. How we treat others, how we show up for ourselves & other people. How I interact with my clients & how I make them feel, these are things that matter to me.
Connection begins with being present when we’re engaging with others & providing a space for them to feel safe in. A space where we can feel seen, heard, be vulnerable without judgement & accepted for who we are as individuals. Appreciating everyone has something that weighs on them & being mindful of that. It’s taking a moment in time to stop, connect, fully engage, appreciate the diversity & uniqueness of people around us.
I’ll take connection with someone over anything else, every time. We are in a world that demands so much from us, human connection can get lost so easily.
Next time you’re talking with someone take a breath, stop & be in that moment. Life will still be waiting for us. Be present, make eye contact, smile & allow for an opportunity to mutually engage in what that interaction brings.
Kindness always ♡
