RECOVER: Moving On From Persistent Pain A Short Course at Beleura Health Solutions
Ran by Lachlan Wakeling, Pain Physiotherapist and Director of Beleura Health Solutions Hastings

"Pain science education is often misinterpreted by patients as you are just saying the pain is in my head. While the truth is that everyone's pain, physiologically, is generated from the brain, it’s working in conjunction with the body."

"It may be beneficial for clinicians to change the language from Chronic pain to Persistent pain. Even though both imply only the duration of pain, the word Chronic can be mistakenly associated with high intensity of pain and the impression that it will never get better."

"Pain is always real no matter what's causing it" - Lorimer Mosley

Two common behavioural patterns of people experiencing persistent pain: Boom-bust cycle and Descent into chronicity (by gradually limiting more and more activities to avoid potential pain).

"Using the Scale of Safety and Danger (concerning patient's pain experience) can help us identify ways to increase Safety factors and reduce Danger factors and therefore regain the balance of daily activities."

EVENT POSTPONED

I apologize for the short notice, but unfortunately the community PD scheduled for next Tuesday will need to be postponed. One of the speakers is unable to present due to health concerns. It is the Peninsula Community Health Circle's goal to provide high quality professional development events that you can walk away with a better knowledge and understanding of your service, your clients and your community. That's why I didn't want to go ahead with the event now knowing that the quality will be compromised.

I will inform you as soon as I can confirm a new date and again my sincere apologies for the short notice.

Two weeks ago, I ran the first PCHC community PD event ever! It was quite a proud moment for me personally. To see a vision come to life was something hard to put into words. I would like to thank everyone who supported me and this event in the past few months. I wouldn't be able to achieve this without your support and trust in me.

Bring on 2023 for more awesome PD events to come!
