🎄✈️ Travelling this holiday season? Here are Jasmine Thomas’ top Hearing Aid Travel Tips to help you stay connected and comfortable wherever you go.

Whether you’re flying interstate, taking a long summer road trip, or enjoying time away with family, being prepared can make a significant difference in your hearing clarity and device performance.

✈️ Flying: Managing Pressure & Comfort

Changes in cabin pressure can make ears feel blocked and affect hearing clarity.
• Chew gum, swallow, or yawn during take-off/landing
• Keep your hearing aids in so you don’t miss flight or safety announcements
• If you’re prone to wax build-up, consider a clean before your trip

🚗 Road Travel: Reducing Listening Fatigue

Highway noise and long drives can strain your hearing.
• Lower background noise where possible
• Use your noise-reduction or comfort program if your devices support it
• Take short listening breaks to avoid fatigue

🔋 Pack Smart: Chargers & Power Essentials

Hearing aid travel essentials are often forgotten at the last minute.
• Bring your charger, power cable, and a powerbank
• Keep spare batteries in your carry-on
• Store everything in a small travel pouch for easy access

💧 Protect Your Devices from Heat & Moisture

Summer humidity, perspiration, and beach activities can impact device performance.
• Use a drying kit or dehumidifier while travelling
• Wipe your devices daily
• Avoid leaving hearing aids in hot vehicles or direct sunlight

🧳 Build a Simple Travel Kit

A few small items can prevent unexpected issues:
• Spare domes and wax filters
• Cleaning brush and cloth
• Case, drying kit, and extra batteries/charger

Preparing ahead ensures that your hearing health stays steady throughout your holiday plans, and helps you fully enjoy conversations, gatherings, and celebrations.

If you need your devices checked or serviced before travelling, our team is here to help before the Christmas closure.

📱 Bluetooth acting up? Here are quick fixes you can try at home.
If your hearing aids suddenly stop streaming calls, music, or connecting to the app. Don’t worry, most Bluetooth issues have simple solutions.

Here’s what Jasmine Thomas recommends before you book an appointment:

1️⃣ Restart Bluetooth on your phone
Turn Bluetooth OFF, then ON. This simple reset fixes most connection dropouts.

2️⃣ Reboot your hearing aids
Open/close the battery door or place rechargeable aids in/out of the charger. This forces a soft reset without deleting your pairing.

3️⃣ Update your hearing app + phone software
Make sure your app (Oticon ON, myPhonak, mySignia, Starkey Thrive, etc.) and your phone’s OS are fully updated. Outdated software can interrupt Bluetooth.

4️⃣ Check device compatibility
Some phone models don’t support advanced streaming features. Check your brand’s compatibility page if you’re unsure.

5️⃣ Full Reset (last resort!)
Forget the device in your Bluetooth list → restart your phone → restart your aids → pair again from scratch.

If you’ve tried these steps and still can’t connect, our team can help troubleshoot further once the clinic reopens.

🎄✨ Don’t Let Silent Nights Be Too Silent ✨🎄
Holiday gatherings are a beautiful chance to reconnect, but they can also highlight the first signs of hearing loss.

If you’ve recently noticed:
🔹 Struggling to follow conversations at noisy dinners
🔹 Saying “pardon?” or “what was that?” more often
🔹 Feeling left out during group chats
🔹 Turning up the TV while family visits
🔹 Lip-reading without realising it

…these may be early signs that your hearing needs attention.

Hearing loss often starts subtly, especially in social settings with background noise. But early testing makes a big difference to communication, confidence, and long-term hearing health.

This season, give yourself the gift of clarity. 🎁

Jasmine Thomas and the Hills Audiology Castle Hill team are here to help you stay connected to the people and moments that matter.

Still using cotton buds to “clean” your ears?
Audiologists actually don’t recommend them, and here’s why. 👇

Cotton buds push wax deeper, increase the risk of scratches, infections, blockages, and can even injure the eardrum.

Your ears are designed to clean themselves naturally, and when they can’t, that’s where safe, professional care comes in.

At Hills Audiology, we offer gentle microsuction earwax removal. The safest and most effective way to clear blocked ears without causing trauma or irritation.

If you’re experiencing muffled hearing, discomfort, or frequent blockages, let us help you get clarity and comfort back. 💚

When little ones can’t yet tell you what they hear (or don’t hear), their behaviour becomes their voice.
As parents, it’s easy to assume they’re “distracted” or “still learning”, but sometimes, these signs point to something deeper.

Here are common early red flags that may suggest your toddler is struggling to hear:
🔹 Not responding when you call their name
🔹 Delayed speech or slower language development
🔹 Turning up the TV or tablet volume too high
🔹 Behaviour changes: frustration, clinginess, or withdrawal

Early checks can make a big difference in your child’s communication, learning, and confidence.

A paediatric hearing test at Hills Audiology is gentle, safe, quick, and reassuring for parents.

If any of these red flags sound familiar, trust your instincts, we’re here to help. 💚
