I want to take a moment to acknowledge Emma Wilson, a Brisbane-based dance artist and therapist I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring.

Emma brings a rare combination of warmth, rigour, and deep listening to her work. Her background spans dance movement therapy, creative arts therapy, community dance, choreography, and performance — and what stands out most is how thoughtfully she weaves all of this into practice that is grounded, ethical, and genuinely responsive to the people she works with.

Watching Emma clarify her ideas, strengthen her professional voice, and refine how she offers her work into the world has been a joy. Mentoring doesn’t feel like teaching at someone — it’s more like walking alongside, asking questions, and making space for confidence to settle in. Emma does that beautifully in her own work, too.

If you’re in Brisbane and curious about community dance, creative therapy, or movement-based practice, I highly recommend exploring what Emma offers.

And for those of you working in movement, dance, yoga, or the creative arts who are feeling ready for some thoughtful professional mentoring — I always love these conversations. Or simply sign up for the short monthly newsletter where I discuss just one aspect of yoga and dance education. More About Emma

🐶 Sniff sniff sniff… sighhh.
Not dinner yet.

A breathing game from our PD workshop:
three short, eager sniffs through the nose (like a hopeful dog checking if dinner’s ready)
followed by one long, dramatic sigh of disappointment when it’s clearly not.

These kinds of playful breathing exercises are a favourite with our early childhood students. They feel like a game, invite laughter, and quietly build awareness and control of the breath — without anyone needing to “try hard” or sit still for too long.

We have many little breathing games like this — simple, imaginative, and engaging — and we use them across yoga and creative movement with young children.

If you’d like more ideas like this, you’re warmly invited to join my mailing list.
I send short, monthly emails with practical, playful ideas for teaching yoga and creative dance to kids — no overwhelm, just things you can actually use.

Crouching Tiger when roaring is a fearsome thing to behold. Some teachers are sensitive and get frightened. You start in a crouching tiger position. Second image from Creative Yoga Games for Kids Volume 1-Card 12. And then you breathe in and ROAR as you spring up. Give it a try, but don’t frighten your teacher. Link in bio to yoga shop.
