Itās great not to be on any medications š.
I shared this post 5 years ago. Talk about a powerful reminder. Wow! Sometimes I think we forget how far we have come!
āDo you ever get frustrated because you havenāt reached your end goal yet? At times, I get a little bummed and frustrated that I am not completely healed and pain-free yet. I still deal with unpleasant symptoms from Lyme: fatigue, headaches, migraines, joint pain, nerve pain, etc. Sometimes I forget how far I have come on my healing journey.
Today, the TTUHSC School of Pharmacy is hosting a Medication Cleanout. I went through ALL of my old prescriptions, medications, creams, etc, so that we could take in what I no longer need. The process was actually very emotional for me. It was like taking a time machine back 7 years ago and remembering all the different medications I was on for various things.
All the creams, hormones, and nerve pain medications for the pelvic pain. The prescriptions I was on for bladder pain. The heartburn medication I completely forgot that I took. All the laxatives I was on after I had my second hernia and was told, āNothing is wrong with you, you just need to be on laxatives for the rest of your life,ā even though it turned out I had a partial bowel obstruction due to a 12 cm hernia. The pain medications I took after each surgery. The many different migraine prescriptions I tired. The serum vials for all the allergy shots I was taking every week. The medications for all the infections I was constantly getting (yeast, urinary, upper respiratory, sinus, etc).
I lived on 2 ibuprofen and coffee every morning to get me through my day, and then would repeat this in the afternoon.
These prescription bottles filled our tableā¦all 17 lbs (yes, 17lbs) of this stuff!!! I no longer need to take ANY of this!
People hear that I follow a gluten, dairy, sugar, and grain-free diet and tell me all the time how āhard that must beā and how they couldnāt understand how I could do it. Iāll tell you, it is way easier for me to follow this diet than it was for me to take all of this medication that didnāt even help me that much.
Now, I am much more interested in treating the root case, than putting a band-aid over everything and only treating the symptoms. You heal from the inside outā¦and it starts with what you are putting inside your body. Please donāt get me wrong, I know there is a time and place for medication. Also, please do not just stop your medications without consulting with your doctor first.
Am I still on my healing journey? Yes. Do I still have symptoms that I am addressing and would like to be gone? Yes. Am I better now than I was? ABSOLUTELY!!! Health is an ever evolving journey. Man does it feel good to be free of all this stuff!!! So today, I am celebrating how far I have come. Things are better and I am healing!!!!ā
