Feeling constantly exhausted, overwhelmed, or mentally drained can sometimes be more than just a busy period.

Burnout often builds gradually and can show up as:
• Ongoing fatigue that does not improve with rest
• Reduced motivation or sense of accomplishment
• Increased irritability or emotional exhaustion
• Difficulty concentrating or switching off

It is not simply about working too much. It is often linked to prolonged stress without enough recovery or support.

Recognising the signs early can make a meaningful difference.

If this sounds familiar, we have put together a guide to help identify burnout and what can support recovery.

We’re excited to welcome a new clinician to the Mind-Care team 💬

Leilani de Silva, Clinical Psychologist, will be joining us from next week.

Leilani is based at our Charlestown clinic and also offers secure telehealth appointments, supporting teens and adults across a range of mental health concerns.

With over 10 years’ experience across hospital and community settings, she brings a calm, thoughtful and collaborative approach to therapy. She creates a space where people can feel safe, understood, and supported to move forward at their own pace.

Leilani works with presentations including anxiety, mood difficulties, trauma, emotional regulation, life transitions, relationship concerns, and the psychological impact of chronic health conditions.

Her approach is evidence-based and tailored to each individual, drawing on therapies such as CBT, ACT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy and mindfulness.

As part of the Mind-Care team, Leilani works within a broader multidisciplinary service, with access to psychology, psychiatry, neurology and allied health when needed.

Struggling to sleep can feel frustrating, especially when you are exhausted, but your mind won’t switch off.

Sleep difficulties are often treated as a surface-level problem, but they rarely start there.

Understanding what is keeping the brain alert is a key step toward improving sleep.

Struggling to sleep can be frustrating, especially when you feel exhausted, but your mind won’t switch off.

Sleep difficulties are more common than many people realise, and they are not always just about habits or routine. Often, there are underlying factors like stress, anxiety, or an overactive mind that make it harder to rest.

Understanding what is driving the sleep disruption is an important first step.

If this sounds familiar, we have put together a practical guide exploring common causes of insomnia and ways to improve sleep.

"The point about manic depression or bipolar disorder, as it's now more commonly called, is that it's about mood swings… When people think of manic depression, they only hear the word depression. They think one’s a depressive. The point is, one’s a manic‑depressive."
— Stephen Fry

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Bipolar isn't "moodiness". It's a complex mental health condition involving shifts in 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀, and 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝗱 that can deeply affect daily life.

With the right support, people with bipolar disorder can live full, meaningful, stable lives.

Mind‑Care clinicians provide 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲‑𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 support for mood disorders, helping people understand their patterns and build tools that work for them.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆, recognised globally by the United Nations.

The 2026 theme — “𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀” — highlights how loneliness often stems from barriers rather than from individuals.

Adults with Down syndrome may experience loneliness when environments limit opportunities for connection, autonomy, communication or community participation.

Mind‑Care supports adults with Down syndrome by providing:
• identity‑affirming psychological support
• strategies for connection + social confidence
• collaborative care alongside families and allied health
• spaces that honour autonomy, communication and lived experience

We join the global movement calling for communities where people with Down syndrome feel connected, valued and included across adulthood.

Today is 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆, finishing up Harmony Week — a national celebration of cultural diversity, inclusion and community belonging.

All week, many families will have seen children wearing orange to celebrate Harmony Week in early‑learning centres and schools. In adult life, the same message remains important: belonging supports wellbeing.

For many adults, happiness and mental health are deeply shaped by:
• 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆
• 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀
• 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
• 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 + 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲
• 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲

Mind‑Care is committed to culturally respectful, trauma‑aware mental health support that honours identity, lived experience and cultural diversity.

Here’s to the communities who make space for belonging, connection and respect.
