Loving kindness meditation, can be also known as Metta meditation. This kind of practice can be used in a few different ways. The miraculous bodymind holds onto all sorts of memories, beliefs and perceptions for us, they may arise over time in various ways, offering messages, insight and/or asking for loving attention.

These messages might show up in the form of niggling feelings, dreams, thoughts, emotions and behaviours, or they may present in the form of physical tension, constrictions, injuries, illness, blockages and/or sensations.

Bodymind is always communicating with us. Its language can be both subtle and/or at times, very direct. I often refer to the “feather, brick or train analogy” to give a practical example.

If we may not hear, listen or attune to the body’s messages the proverbial volume (intensity) can get turned up, to the point we can no longer ignore them.

As a result, what may have been niggling feelings to start with can become a more notable bodymind event such as illness, disease, chronic ailments or injuries and so on.

The bodymind does not speak with words & verbal language, rather it will talk to us through these subtle symptoms.

We may start to deepen our attunement to this innate body wisdom and its often subtle messages through many differing kinds of quiet introspective practices, through gentle breathing and/or movement practices etc. Even just closing your eyes for a few moments and observing the sensations that may arise within bodymind can offer deeper insights.

To nurture & nourish the psyche (mental, emotional & spiritual) & physical body and appreciate all it does for us.

I’ve always loved the saying “tend to your garden and the butterflies will come”.

And perhaps as we may slow down to tend to our proverbial garden, we may witness/observe the vast interconnected ecosystem (the unified whole) that supports & welcomes the butterflies (unity).

The world consists of Yin and Yang; in every shadow on snow, a glimmer of light awaits.

What a gift it is to be here inhibiting these miraculous bodily vessels, these conduits for the Divine.

Whatever we do for Self permeates, ripples into the Whole.

As within, so without.

Localised consciousness is a wave within the ocean of consciousness.

In a more practical sense, perhaps we may view it as how we may nourish, hydrate, move & care for the body day to day can be deeply interconnected to how we may care for the that which surrounds us - our environment, our people, our animals, our land etc.

And the vitality of one can be felt and experienced by many, this can take so many different formats & contexts, yet arguably, all as beautiful and impactful as the other.

I absolutely love this quote from Thich Nhat Hanh. Even the seemingly smallest gesture of Self care & Self kindness, whatever we can manage for today, is speaking to the Whole.

A personal anecdote that I hope may be relatable in some way for someone, and maybe even inspire a call to sit quietly, go for a solo walk in nature, read a book, spend some time creating for the sake of creating, play (whatever that may look like for you), give back to Self in whatever way feels good for you. ❤️

Ever so grateful (beyond words) to Mitch for (greatly) deepening the inspiration to sit quietly, and the truly unparalleled embodied guidance/teachings. 🙏🏽😌💛

Utilising nasal breathing to, ultimately & potentially, shift our state of mind, decisions, perception & experience of day to day life.

Nasal breathing to sloooow the rate of breath, correlatively sloooowing our brainwaves.

Slower brainwaves such as alpha (relaxation) and theta (meditation, enhanced creativity, deepened relaxation & restoration) are powerful states to experience on a regular basis for the restorative impact on bodymind (mental, physical & emotional, feeling safety, healing) and also for deepening spiritual practice.

See the slides above for some simple actionable steps you can try anytime.

“If the mind falls asleep, awaken it.

Then if it starts wandering, let it fall quiet.

If you reach the state where there is neither sleep nor movement of mind, stay still in that, the natural (real) state.”

Sri Ramana Maharshi

LIFE AS AN OFFERING

Most beautiful & deeply felt words & sentiment from Toko-Pa Turner, Belonging: Remembering Ourselves Home (shared above).

We all embody a divine essence, and when we welcome in a freedom of expression, it can be truly beautiful to see what arises. Go gently, because in the process we may also be welcoming up emotions & parts of Self that have long been suppressed. Let it flow without constraints, limitations or judgement, with love, self compassion & curiosity.

This image was created a few years back using photographs taken of different Northern Beaches ocean sunrises, combined with various silhouettes. An expression of something deeper within 💛💫🙏🏽

The space between

Between two notes on the piano
Between two thoughts
Between stimulus & response
Between two breaths…

After the exhale, before the next inhale

A quietness
A spaciousness
A vast, limitless & blissful space where nothing exists yet brimming with boundless possibility
A doorway to the infinite

———

A practice (invitation) for you…

Find a quiet space for a few minutes
Bring a mindful awareness to the breath
Inhaling, filling the bodymind with breath
Hold this in briefly, feel the breath swirling within
Now, release slowly, and as you release feel any tension in the body also leaving with the breath

Let it all go

At the bottom of the exhale, notice the pause before the next inhale
When you feel the body naturally ask for the breath, inhale again through the nose
As you breathe in, feel the slow expansion of the lungs & diaphragm

Hold this expansion briefly

Now ever so slowly, release the breath
As you slowly release the breath, you are flooding the body, the blood, the cells with miraculous revitalising oxygen

At the bottom of the exhale, observe the space before the next inhale

When the body asks for the next breath, inhale
Expanding the bodily vessel
Retain the breath briefly at the top of the inhale
And then, sloooowly release

At the bottom of the exhale, observe this pause, this space between two breaths
Continue like this
Gently & incrementally slowing the rate of breathing to expand this space of stillness
And as you do so, you may find the space at the bottom of the exhale becomes longer, quieter, more spacious

Explore this spaciousness
How does it feel?
What do you hear?
What can you see?
What arises for you?

———-

Once you become aware this space exists Keep mindfully returning to it whenever you wish
The pause is always there
If only we may bring our awareness to it more often
A formless dimension of pure consciousness
A doorway to the infinite

The dance
A lifelong and ever deepening spiritual practice
Of incrementally & iteratively coming to greater awareness (humbly, awareness at least of how little one knows at all)
Of incrementally & iteratively letting go of inner resistance
Of softening
Of learning (always learning)
Of loving (all, and what is)
Of stumbling and resting,
And getting back up again to participate in

This miraculous earthly dance

This is a devotion to the Mother (energy).

The Mother energy is all about nurturing, life giving and unconditional love. That can take and/or be expressed through infinite formats and relationships, we don’t necessarily have to be a Mother.

We all have this divine energy innate within us, every single one of us.

Whether you may care for children, or perhaps you nurture the land, the environment and/or animals, perhaps you are a primary caregiver, a teacher, a support worker, a nurse, or you deeply care for people around you in community - this is for you. You Selflessly give your time, love and energy for the betterment of others, so join us this evening for a brief yet beautifully relaxing guided meditation.

This breath & meditation session is For The Mother. This is a devotion to the Mother (Energy). Whether you are a Mother to a tiny human(s), a primary caregiver, perhaps your role in society is to care for and/or teach others, perhaps you care for animals, the land, perhaps you nurture the environmen...
