Utilising nasal breathing to, ultimately & potentially, shift our state of mind, decisions, perception & experience of day to day life.

Nasal breathing to sloooow the rate of breath, correlatively sloooowing our brainwaves.

Slower brainwaves such as alpha (relaxation) and theta (meditation, enhanced creativity, deepened relaxation & restoration) are powerful states to experience on a regular basis for the restorative impact on bodymind (mental, physical & emotional, feeling safety, healing) and also for deepening spiritual practice.

Go gently, because in the process we may also be welcoming up emotions & parts of Self that have long been suppressed. The space between

Between two notes on the piano
Between two thoughts
Between stimulus & response
Between two breaths…

After the exhale, before the next inhale

A quietness
A spaciousness
A vast, limitless & blissful space where nothing exists yet brimming with boundless possibility
A doorway to the infinite

A practice (invitation) for you…

Find a quiet space for a few minutes
Bring a mindful awareness to the breath
Inhaling, filling the bodymind with breath
Hold this in briefly, feel the breath swirling within
Now, release slowly, and as you release feel any tension in the body also leaving with the breath

Let it all go

At the bottom of the exhale, notice the pause before the next inhale
When you feel the body naturally ask for the breath, inhale again through the nose
As you breathe in, feel the slow expansion of the lungs & diaphragm

Hold this expansion briefly

Now ever so slowly, release the breath
As you slowly release the breath, you are flooding the body, the blood, the cells with miraculous revitalising oxygen

At the bottom of the exhale, observe the space before the next inhale

When the body asks for the next breath, inhale
Expanding the bodily vessel
Retain the breath briefly at the top of the inhale
And then, sloooowly release

At the bottom of the exhale, observe this pause, this space between two breaths
Continue like this
Gently & incrementally slowing the rate of breathing to expand this space of stillness
And as you do so, you may find the space at the bottom of the exhale becomes longer, quieter, more spacious

Explore this spaciousness
How does it feel?
What do you hear?
What can you see?
What arises for you?

Once you become aware this space exists Keep mindfully returning to it whenever you wish
The pause is always there
If only we may bring our awareness to it more often
A formless dimension of pure consciousness
A doorway to the infinite

Of incrementally & iteratively letting go of inner resistance
Of softening
Of learning (always learning)
Of loving (all, and what is)
Of stumbling and resting,
And getting back up again to participate in

The (ego) mind loves a story.

We may relate to a time (or many) where we have been caught up in the stories & narratives we tell ourselves.

Whether it be deeper long held narratives or more surface level assumptions to fill out a wider context.

These stories can help us to make sense of an experience, and/or offer the effect of shutting down uncertainty & vulnerability that can be necessary for reaching the truth. Ultimately serving an overarching self-protective purpose.

However, it is in the (often unconscious) attachment to these stories (ultimately thoughts & repeated narratives) that we may also contribute to our own suffering.

If/when we feel ready, we may start to compassionately, Self lovingly & curiously explore these thoughts & narratives, where they stem from, how they may be influencing us & if they are serving us.

To ponder the creation of a book.

The transference of knowledge, wisdom and insight via these beautifully articulated & crafted pages.

Whatever the book, whatever the topic or content, somebody has intentionally and very consciously sat down, welcomed in their creative energy & laid it bare on the pages in front of you.

The transmutation of this creative energy into carefully selected language & possibly images too, each word & image carrying a vibration & resonant energy, to convey a message.

The reader receives this energy & message through their own lens of experience and level of awareness. An author’s intended message potentially received and interpreted in myriad ways.

Books are incredible & timeless gifts. To re-read an old favourite with fresh eyes a few weeks, months or years later, and take something new from it.

The magic of a full bookshelf, lined with countless pages of wisdom to absorb.

Some recent reads. I’ve finished each one and thought, that was the best book I’ve read (until the next one πŸ˜‚). Many of these books pictured are being, or have been, read multiple times because the layers and depth to the message(s) conveyed are such that they offer something new for the reader with each (re)read.

Expectations are a fundamental aspect of the human experience.

And, when unchecked, they can also be the cause of great suffering.

If we may hold an attachment, whether conscious or unconscious, to a desired outcome, we are setting parameters on the expression of life itself.

Whether our expectation may be optimistic or pessimistic, it narrows our field of vision and closes down the limitless potential that exists in each present moment.

The mental angst we may create for Self when we confine our experience of life to a set of expectations, be it from those we place on our Self (potentially inherited) or those we accept from others.

Who would/could you be, and/or what could life look like without attachment to any β€œshoulds” and/or expectations, whether they are your own or those from others?
