🐢 Exploring the Life Cycle of a Turtle 🌊

Today we explored the life cycle of a turtle, extending on our shared reading of the book The Smallest Turtle by Lynley Dodd. 🐢

The children engaged in hands-on, sensory rich learning as they investigated the different stages of a turtle’s life using loose parts, shells, soft turtle toys and storytelling props. Through discussion and play, the children explored how turtles hatch from eggs, grow, live in the ocean and the importance of caring for marine environments.

This experience encouraged the children to use their imagination, develop language and communication skills, build understanding of living things and strengthen their connection to the natural world. The children showed curiosity, care and respect as they shared ideas and retold parts of the story together. 🌊

This learning links to the QKLG through:
• Active learning and investigating
• Building a sense of identity and connection to place
• Developing language, literacy and communication skills
• Exploring sustainability and caring for living things and environments
What a beautiful way to combine literacy, science, sensory play and environmental awareness into one engaging experience. 💚

🌿 Community Call Out 🌿

Our kindy is making a small but sustainable change! We are moving away from using Woollies green bags for children’s bedding and instead will be using pillowcases — a more practical and eco-friendly option. 💚

We’re hoping our local community might be able to help us out. If you have any spare, mismatched, or unused pillowcases tucked away in the back of a linen cupboard, we would love to give them a new home at kindy!

We are aiming to collect around 50 pillowcases, and every donation, big or small, will be so greatly appreciated.

If you’re able to help, please send us a message or drop donations into the kindy. Thank you for supporting our little learners and helping us make more sustainable choices for our environment. 🌱

What a mammoth task our Term Busy Bee was today! 🐝🌿

A huge THANK YOU to all of the amazing parents and families who volunteered their time to come along and help out today. Your support, hard work, and willingness to pitch in truly means so much to our community kindy.

A very special thank you also goes to our wonderful committee members who worked tirelessly to help make sure our kindy is clean, cared for, and looking its absolute best for our children and families. 💛

Also a shoutout to BARNYARD STOCKFEED - CHILDERS QLD for assisting me in selecting some new non toxic seedlings for our kindy.

We are incredibly grateful for every single volunteer, every minute donated, and all of the tools and equipment that were brought along to assist us today. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, the kindy is looking so much cleaner, tidier, and refreshed. The gardens have been beautifully done, spaces organised, and our environment feels so welcoming again. 🌱✨
It really does take a village to keep our community kindy running, and today was such a wonderful reminder of the power of community spirit.

⭕ Movement Transition Game ⭕

During our transition time today, the children participated in a fun movement experience combining jumping, hopping, and name recognition! Children completed 4 jumps on the rebounder before hopping through the hoops while confidently saying, “My name is…” 🌟
This playful transition supported children to build confidence, body coordination, balance, and gross motor skills while also encouraging a sense of identity and belonging within the group. Incorporating movement into transitions helps keep children engaged while supporting self-regulation and active participation in routines.

🏖️ Sandpit Exploration with Recycled Loose Parts 🏖️

This week we extended on the children’s growing interest in filling, pouring, and transporting by adding recycled containers and vessels to our sandpit environment. ♻️🌿
Children explored different ways to scoop, carry, fill, and empty the sand using a variety of containers, engaging in meaningful hands-on learning through play. This open-ended experience encouraged children to experiment with volume, weight, and capacity while strengthening fine motor skills and coordination.
Using recycled materials within our environment also supports conversations around sustainability and reusing everyday items in creative ways.

🎨 Spray Bottle Painting Exploration 🎨

Today the children explored colour, creativity, and fine motor development through spray bottle painting using the primary colours! 🔴🟡🔵

Children strengthened their hand muscles and coordination as they squeezed the spray bottle triggers, developing important fine motor skills needed for everyday tasks such as writing and self-help skills. As the colours mixed together on the paper, children investigated cause and effect while discovering how new colours can be created through experimentation and play.

This hands-on experience encouraged:
✨ Fine motor strength and coordination
✨ Creativity and self-expression
✨ Early science and colour mixing concepts
✨ Curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving

🌿 Nature Loose Parts Playdough 🌿

Children explored creativity, imagination, and sensory play using natural loose parts and playdough. Using wood slices, stones, seed pods, and greenery, children manipulated and combined materials to create their own designs and representations inspired by nature. 🍃
This experience supported fine motor development, creative thinking, and open-ended exploration while encouraging children to connect with natural materials in meaningful ways.

🌍 World Earth Day at Kindy 🌍

Last week we celebrated World Earth Day by creating our own Earths using playdough and loose parts such as gems, stones and other natural materials. 💙💚

Children used their imagination to roll, shape and design their own versions of the Earth, exploring colour, texture and creativity through hands-on play. This experience supported fine motor development, problem-solving and independent thinking as children made choices about how to represent our world.

Through this activity, we also had conversations about caring for our planet, looking after nature and how we can help keep our environment clean and healthy.

This learning links to the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG), supporting children’s active learning, connectedness and wellbeing through meaningful, play-based experiences.
