The Warrego Highway at Chinchilla is now OPEN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS as at 1.27am Saturday 14 March 2026.

> A 'return with caution' was issued for Charley's Creek Chinchilla last night. Residents can now begin to return to their properties if water has receded from the roads and around their homes allowing safe access.

> As flood water in Charley’s Creek continues to recede, you should take care when returning to the area as flood damage can be widespread.

> Chinchilla residents are advised the emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) for Chinchilla, issued on 11 March 2026 in relation to major flooding, has been revoked.

> 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

> Additionally, thank-you to everyone in our community who has co-operated with and assisted Council and emergency services personnel by prioritising public safety by adhering to the PSPA exclusions.

> Signage is in place to inform residents of current and remaining road closures. TMR and Council road closures can be viewed on Council's Disaster Dashboard at https://disaster.wdrc.qld.gov.au/.

> All road signage is being reviewed and adjusted to ensure community safety as conditions change.

> If you return to your property and have no power please go to ergon.com.au/network.

> If you return to your property and there has been suspected water inundation to your electrical installation it is the responsibility of the property owner to engage an electrical contractor to ensure safety.

> Protect your health and safety; wear boots, gloves and protective clothing when cleaning up, wash your hands and clothes often, throw away food that should be kept cold or frozen if you lost power.

> Damage assessments will continue to be carried out by partner agencies tomorrow and throughout the weekend as flood waters continue to recede and it is safe to do.

> If you need assistance with clean-up, please phone the SES for support on 132 500.

> Do not drive through floodwater. Vehicles driving through receding floodwater push water into businesses and homes, worsening impacts and disrupting damage assessments and clean-up efforts being undertaken.

> The Leichhardt Highway is open from Dalby through to Miles via Condamine. The Warrego Highway remains closed at Chinchilla.

> Charleys Creek Chinchilla has receded to moderate flood level and is currently at 5.62m. The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that floodwater is expected to recede slowly today.

> The Chinchilla Weir has peaked and has receded to minor flood level. The Warrego Highway at Chinchilla remains closed.

> BoM has advised the Condamine River at Condamine township is currently at an 8.1m flood level and is expected to peak at around 8.3m this afternoon. Flood levels are currently sitting at 2m below the bridge. The Leichhardt Highway is open from Dalby through to Miles via Condamine.

> The Evacuation Centre at Chinchilla Showgrounds will be formally closed from midday today.

> Rapid damage assessments and major clean-up operations will continue today and through the weekend for Chinchilla in safe areas as water levels drop.

> Ergon Energy is continuing to restore power to impacted properties in Chinchilla and at least 21 properties have now had power restored.

> If your wheelie bin collection has been disrupted due flooding or road closures, please leave your bins out. We will have waste contractors working through the weekend to catch-up on missed collections.

> We're finalising our flood waste disposal arrangements for Chinchilla, Miles, and Winfield's Road Waste Management Centre at Jandowae. This information will be shared with our communities shortly.

> Council is continuing to work through the disaster recovery plan for impacted towns and properties.

> Chinchilla residents in flooded areas are advised it is NOT SAFE TO RETURN to flood impacted properties and areas as major flooding continues to occur.

> The flood level in Charley's Creek has peaked at 6.41m at around 1.45am this morning (Thursday 12 March 2026). The creek is currently at 6.11m and steady, with major flooding.

> Charley's Creek is expected to remain at the major flood level (6.0m) today and is expected fall below major flood level tomorrow (Friday 13 March 2026).

3. QFD have completed their property assessments.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴?
• If your property has been impacted, stay where you are until you are told it safe to go back.
• Power remains isolated to affected properties. Power will be returned only when water levels have receded.
• Never play, walk, ride or drive through flood water because it is dangerous. There could be debris, sewerage, chemicals and other unsanitary items.

• Avoid returning to flood effected homes or businesses until major flood levels recede. If your property has not been impacted and it's safe to return, drive slowly and remain alert.

> Flood level at Charley's Creek Chinchilla is current sitting at 6.16m, down from 6.36m last night. Regional river height information is available on Council's Disaster Dashboard.

> Our last advice from the Bureau of Meteorology was that Charley's Creek should peak at around 6.8m so further rises in flood water levels are expected unless we are otherwise advised by BoM.

> The Burncluith Bridge River level gauge remains at a steady height of 4.59m. The water level at the Chinchilla Weir has risen overnight and is close to road height.

> Chinchilla Tara Road remains open and will only be closed if flood levels pose a threat to the safety of road users.

> The Warrego Highway through Chinchilla remains closed.

> Chinchilla Schools are open.

> Doorknocking by our local police and SES emergency personnel wrapped up shortly before 10pm last night. With the return of daylight hours, Council will aim to determine the number of properties impacted by flooding above floorboards, if safe to do so.

> We are advising residents whose properties have been impacted by flooding overnight not to return until the floodwater has receded and it is completely safe to do so.

> Thank you to residents who heeded the flood warnings, prioritised their safety, and chose to self-evacuate early to stay with family and friends.

> Seven people presented at the at the Chinchilla Evacuation Centre at the Chinchilla Showgrounds overnight and we have been able to place them in local accommodation.

> There are currently no residents accommodated at the Chinchilla Evacuation Centre at the Showgrounds. The centre remains open as a safe place for flood impacted residents.

> We're asking residents to please prioritise their health and safety by 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑. Flood water can contain sewerage, chemicals, debris, and all sorts of harmful things which will make you sick.

> Do not walk or drive through floodwater - even if it looks shallow. If it's flooded, forget it!

UPDATE: At 8pm today, 13 March, police revoked the emergency declaration that was issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at Chinchilla on 11 March.

Residents are able to return to their homes if it is safe to do so.

EARLIER: Police have made an emergency declaration in Chinchilla this afternoon, 11 March, in relation to flooding.

Emergency services have received reports of rising floodwaters likely to impact low lying areas of the township near Charleys Creek.

> Chinchilla residents in flooded areas are advised to PREPARE TO LEAVE as major flood levels continue to rise. The flood level in Charley's Creek has reached 6.36m.

>The Bureau of Meteorology has advised Council that we can expect to reach 6.6m by 11:30pm tonight with continued rises to a peak of 6.8m tomorrow, Thursday 12 March 2026.

> Please make arrangements NOW. Monitor where water levels are currently sitting around your property and compare with the modelled heights from the Bureau of Meteorology.

> Low-lying residents planning voluntary evacuation should prepare to leave during daylight hours today and are encouraged to plan to stay with family or friends.

> If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. For flood assistance, call SES on 132 500.

What are we expecting?

• The Bureau of Meteorology advises Charley's Creek will reach 6.5m by 5:30pm and 6.6m by 11:30pm and continue to rise above the major flood level peaking at 6.8m on Thursday 12 March 2026.
• Local roads and bridges are closed.
• Evacuation routes may be cut off soon.
• If you remain in the area, you may become stranded without power, water, and other essential services.

What you need to do:

• Leave now and go to a safe place in a high part of Chinchilla away from the flood. This could be with your family or friends.
• Take your mobile phone, charger, medicine, identification, cash, and keys with you.
• If you come to a flooded road, turn around and go another way. Do not drive through floodwater.
• Decide how you will get to your safe place and ensure you have enough fuel to get there. If you come to a flooded road, turn around and go another way. Do not drive, walk, or swim through flood water.
• If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
• Take your pets and companion animals for safe travel.
• Help others if you can.
