We've seen a growing number of support workers choosing to step away from larger organisations to work independently. It's an exciting moveābut itās important to be fully informed about your responsibilities under the NDIS and your obligations to the people you support. We are often contacted with questions about how to operate as an independent SW (ABN, tax etc); how to invoice, what they can claim, and what a service agreement should look like. Unfortunately this takes us away from our actual COS role.
So..........
If you need help learning how to operate your own business: https://business.gov.au/ is the place to go.
If you need help with an invoice template- many plan manager websites have one on their website that you can access.
A support worker service agreement can be found here: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/4372275686/support-worker-service-agreement-for
NDIS have a range of resources about how to operate as an NDIS provider here: https://www.ndis.gov.au/providers
NDIS offer info sessions on a variety of topics including how to join the NDIS, operate as a provider, and using a plan. Topics regularly change and can be found here: https://www.ndis.gov.au/news/events?page=2
Information about what you can charge, and from what category, are found in the NDIS priceguide: https://www.ndis.gov.au/providers/pricing-arrangements
These are not 'set' rates. Clients can negotiate a lower rate and should, if you are new to the industry and/or not providing any complex support or capacity building.
NDIS worker training modules can be found here: https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workforce/online-training-modules
Enjoy!
The NDIS Commission has created online training modules that help NDIS workers understand their role and obligations and better support people with disability.
