Did you know that research has shown it's equally as important to look after the care giver ! If a care giver feels supported, the client demonstrates better outcomes in goals they set for themselves. Here are some tips for all caregivers that can be applied to any medical condition.

LSVT Big focuses on large amplitude and large movements. As OTs we are trained to apply this to fine motor tasks and activities of daily living. The BIG training translates directly to easier dressing, cooking, car transfers and whatever meaningful tasks you would like to work on . The evidence speaks for itself.

Hopefully this can be started in Tassie to support those with a new diagnosis

Perron Institute and Parkinson's Western Australia have established a monthly clinic to support newly diagnosed people with PD during the difficult first few weeks after diagnosis. The main objective is to provide information and guidance early in the PD journey to enable the best possible pathway to coping with the diagnosis and optimising the use of available resources.

The clinic will be led by senior PD nurse specialists Alexa Jefferson and Sheree Ambrosini and Dr David Blacker (neurologist living with PD). Other team members include a physiotherapist specialising in PD, and people living with PD.

A GP or specialist referral is required - Perron Institute Clinic reception will confirm receipt of referral and contact the patient with the details of the clinic session. A Medicare card is required, no fee is payable.
