🌻 Join us for Sunflower Sunday 🌻

A day of sunshine, community… and growing something beautiful together.

For several years, the Bazley family have generously planted a crop of sunflowers on their property at Crestview Farm, opening their fields to the community and donating all proceeds to support Clifton Community Health Services. Their tireless commitment goes far beyond fundraising, with many hours of voluntary support for local health initiatives.

This year, the Bazleys have chosen to direct the funds raised towards a specific project - helping The Belinda McGowan Foundation deliver a cuddle bed to Clifton Community Health Services.

Cuddle beds allow loved ones to lie beside patients, hold hands and remain close during end-of-life care - ensuring families can share those most important moments together.

By joining us for Sunflower Sunday, you’ll be helping make that possible for the Clifton community. πŸ’›

β˜€οΈ Did you know your skin can start taking UV damage after just 10 minutes outdoors when the UV index hits 3 or above? (And in Queensland, that's every day that ends in y). β˜€οΈ

UV exposure doesn't just increase your risk of skin cancer, it's also responsible for up to 80% of visible premature ageing. Yes, that's right: wrinkles, sunspots, pigmentation, the whole package πŸ“¦.

But sun safety isn't just for beach holidays and backyard cricket. It's an everyday, year round, non-negotiable kind of thing. So here are 5 tips to keep your skin healthier (and younger) for longer:

🧴Make SPF50+ your daily bestie. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF50+ sunscreen every single day. The best sunscreen is the one you'll actually use consistently, so pick one you love the feel of. And remember to reapply every two hours. Use one teaspoon for your face and one teaspoon per limb. β˜€οΈFun fact: using too little sunscreen can cut its protection by half... so don't be shy, use that extra pump.

πŸ‘™A tan is not sun protection. A tan is literally your skin saying "I am unwell". Tanned skin = UV damage. And even fake tan only gives an SPF of about 2... so it's purely for the vibe, not the safety. Don't fast track your way to wrinkles, pigmentation or skin cancer. Wear your sunscreen and your golden glow.

πŸ‘€Your eyes need love too. UV rays can damage your eyes as much as your skin. Choose sunglasses that meet Australian Standard Category 2 or higher. Not only do they protect your eyes, they also complete the "I'm so mysterious" look.

πŸ–οΈSeek Shade. Avoid peak UV times in the middle of the day. Shade is your friend, plus it's far more comfortable than frying on the footpath.

πŸ”¬Know your skin. Regular skin checks = your best defense against melanoma. Not all melanomas are dark; up to 20% are amelanotic, meaning pink, red or almost colorless and these can be more aggressive. If you spot something new, strange or changing, get it checked ASAP.

🌀️So, in 2026, think cute hats, bold sunnies, breezy cover-ups and a show stopping umbrella, and don't forget the SPF. Your skin will thank you now... and in 20 years! πŸ’šπŸ’™

Important Update from CCHS

The team at Clifton Community Health Services (CCHS) is currently working with the Public Health Unit following confirmed cases of COVID. We understand that this is an incredibly challening time given it is Christmas and a holiday period and we want to spend time together with our families and loved ones.

To help us protect our residents and staff, we kindly ask:
πŸ’šFamilies of residents to minimise visits where possible.
πŸ’™Residents to limit movement across the wider CCHS facility.
πŸ’š Visitors to wear protective equipment as requested

These precautions, and your cooperation will make a real difference in reducing the risk of spreading the virus throughout the nursing home.
If you wish to continue visiting your loved ones, we encourage:
πŸ’štake an outing outside the facility, or
πŸ’™Take an adventure in our beautiful outdoor gardens instead of visiting indoors

For any questions or further information, please contact:
The team at CCHS.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to keep our community safe this festive season πŸŽ„

β›ˆοΈ Clifton Community Health Service – Weather Event Update β›ˆοΈ

At around 12:30pm yesterday, Clifton Community Health Service was impacted by the severe hail and weather event that many of our community members also experienced. This storm affected several areas across our site, including the Clifton Nursing Home, Sunflower Lodge, Nirvana Hostel, and the old hospital wing.

Thanks to the quick actions of our dedicated team and the incredible support of the SES, Ergon Energy, QAS, and local emergency services, all residents and staff are safe and well. There were no injuries, and all essential service have now been fully restored. Thank you

Our staff and agency team members showed extraordinary care and resilience, continuing to support residents even while some were personally impacted by the storm. We are proud and deeply grateful for their professionalism and teamwork under pressure.

Over the coming days, we’ll be working closely with insurers, contractors, and community partners to assess and repair the damage. We also extend our sincere thanks to our Board, community members, and volunteers who have offered help and support yesterday afternoon. Your help and support is truly appreciated.

We’ll continue to keep our community updated as recovery work progresses.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in β€” your care and support mean so much to our residents and staff. πŸ’šπŸ’™
