Bouldering Basics - Built for the wall 🧗‍♂️

🧗‍♂️ Bouldering Fact
A single hard move can load your fingers with several times your body weight.
Finger strength takes time to adapt.

🧗 Did You Know?
Bouldering problems often require more thinking than raw strength.
Planning your sequence and body positioning can make a hard move feel much easier.

🧗‍♂️ Injury Prevention Tip
Most climbing injuries hit fingers, wrists and shoulders.
Progressive loading beats “just one more go”.

🧗‍♂️ Performance Tip
Power comes from hips and body tension, not just pulling harder.
Drive through your feet. Keep your core engaged.

🧗‍♂️ Weekend Climber Reminder
Cold fingers + hard crimps = bad combo.
Warm up on easy problems before projecting.

🧗‍♂️ Recovery Matters
Tendons adapt slower than muscles.
Plan rest days so your tissues can keep up with your training.

Shoulder strapping isn’t just for the pros 🏈

While NRL & AFL players use it to stabilise and protect their shoulders on the field, it’s also used by clinicians to support recovery and prevent re-injury.

Strapping can help:
- Support the shoulder joint and reduce strain on injured tissues
- Limit excessive movement and manage pain
- Improve posture and guide safer movement patterns
- Give confidence to train, play, or return to sport

It's great for:
- Athletes or active individuals recovering from a shoulder injury
- People performing high-demand or repetitive shoulder activities
- Anyone seeking to prevent shoulder injuries during training or sport

Plantar fasciitis 👣

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot and supports your arch.

Common signs:
• Heel pain (especially first thing in the morning)
• Pain after rest, easing as you move
• Tenderness under the heel or arch

Why it happens:
• Sudden increase in activity
• Poor footwear or worn-out shoes
• Tight calves or Achilles
• Flat or high arches
• Long periods on your feet

Next step 👣
If heel pain is slowing you down, book in with our podiatrist. Early assessment and the right plan can make a big difference.

Back to School Feet 👣

New school year, new shoes… but what about your child’s feet?

Growing feet change fast, and ill-fitting shoes can lead to:
• Heel pain
• Blisters or ingrown nails
• Toe walking or tripping
• Knee or leg pain
• Early posture issues

Back-to-school podiatry tip checklist:

✔️ Shoes should allow thumb-width space at the toes
✔️ Heel of shoe firm, not floppy
✔️ Flexible at the toes, supportive through the midfoot
✔️ Fit checked every 6–12 months (sometimes sooner!)

👟 Hand-me-downs and “a bit of room to grow” can cause more harm than good.

Concerned about your child’s feet, walking or school shoes?
Book in with our podiatrist for a back-to-school foot check.

🎾 Tennis Health - Train for the Court

🎾 Tennis Fact
Serving can load the shoulder at over 2x body weight.
Strong rotator cuffs matter.

🎾 Did You Know?
Tennis involves repeated lunges, sprints & rotation.
Hip and ankle strength = better movement.

🎾 Injury Prevention Tip
Most tennis injuries affect the elbow, shoulder & calf.
Strength training reduces overload.

🎾 Performance Tip
Power doesn’t come from the arm alone.
Leg drive + trunk rotation = stronger shots.

🎾 Weekend Tennis Reminder
A proper warm-up improves reaction time and reduces injury risk.
Your first set shouldn’t be your warm-up.

🎾 Recovery Matters
Tennis is high-repeat loading.
Recovery keeps you consistent on court.

“What motivates you to move?” 🤸‍♀️

Is it:
• walking without discomfort?
• keeping up with the kids (or grandkids)?
• getting back to sport without fear?
• or just putting socks on without the groans?

Whatever your reason, movement doesn’t have to be extreme to be effective.

The best exercise plan is the one that fits your life, your body, your goals and your injuries (past or present).

That’s where Physio, Podiatry & Exercise Physiology come in.

No guilt.
No bootcamp energy.
Just smarter movement that helps you feel good doing the things you love.
