Investing in the Future of Speech Pathology 🗣️

At Accessible Care, we believe that high-quality clinical supervision is where the next generation of healthcare excellence begins.

Throughout February, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting two dedicated Speech Pathology students from La Trobe University, Bernice and Tess.

Watching them translate university theory into real-world clinical practice has been a highlight for our team. From navigating complex assessments to building genuine rapport with our clients, their growth over the last few weeks has been remarkable.

A huge thank you to our Clinical Lead of Speech Pathology, Jai, for providing the high-level clinical support and mentorship required to shape such a successful placement. It takes a village to raise a clinician, and Jai’s leadership ensures our students don’t just observe they thrive.

Bernice and Tess, thank you for your hard work and fresh perspectives. We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in the allied health space!

It’s National No Smoking Day, and while we aren't GPs, our OT and Speech teams are experts in the science of habits and oral health! 🧠✨

Breaking a long-term habit isn't just about willpower; it’s about understanding your body’s needs. Here is how we look at it:

🖐️ The OT Perspective: Often, smoking is a 'sensory regulation' tool. If your hands or mouth need a job to do when you're stressed, we look for 'sensory substitutes'—like fidget tools, heavy work, or tactile distractions to help your nervous system stay calm without the habit.

🗣️ The Speech Perspective: Smoking significantly impacts oral motor health and vocal cord hygiene. We’re big fans of 'Hydration over Irritation'—swapping a puff for a sip of water to keep those vocal folds lubricated and healthy!

Our 2026 Tip: Try 'Habit Stacking.' If you're trying to cut back or quit, pair your new healthy habit (like a 1-minute stretch or a glass of water) with something you already do, like checking the mail.

Change is hard, but you don't have to do it all at once. What’s one 'healthy swap' you’ve made lately? 👇
