Walking Beside You - Psychological Services

Walking Beside You - Psychological Services My practice is trauma-informed, neuroaffirming, and culturally grounded, shaped through mentorship and continual clinical and cultural supervision.

Anastasia is a Clinical Psychologist and founder of Walking Beside You, providing independent outreach psychological services across Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, and Rossville. I’m Anastasia Schild, a Clinical Psychologist and founder of Walking Beside You, providing outreach mental health and assessment services across Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, and Rossville. I work in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention with children, adults, and families with complex trauma, neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD, FASD), a range of clinical disorders. I believe healing happens through Indigenous metholodgies of connection, understanding, and two-way learning — guided by the principles of Dadirri, Ganma, and Garma. Every session is tailored, practical, and strengths-based — helping people make sense of their story and build long-term wellbeing. Beyond formal qualifications, my professional development and supervision reflect a deep commitment to evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally grounded practice. I have undertaken extensive additional training and supervision in:

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Trauma-informed and neurobiological approaches
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Schema Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt Therapy
Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Therapies
Clinical Play Therapy (in training)
Motivational Interviewing and Strengths-Based Practice
Neuroaffirming and family-centred interventions
Parenting and attachment-based programs
Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks for Aboriginal peoples

This combination of scientific knowledge, and targeted training, and deep community connection allows me to deliver care that is clinically rigorous, culturally safe, and tailored to the realities of remote and First Nations communities.

✨ Help Shape New Local Wellbeing and Skills Programs for Kids ✨

I’m exploring what kinds of social, emotional, and behavioural supports local kids and families most need right now — across Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, Rossville, and Bloomfield.
As a Clinical Psychologist with a background in Aboriginal wellbeing research (Interplay Project and AMSANT), I’m developing a series of community-led, culturally-safe interventions designed to strengthen kids’ emotional regulation, social confidence, and resilience — while being grounded in science, cultural awareness, and community feedback.

The programs and interventions designed will be in conjunction with experts in neuroscience, complex neurodiversity, trauma, and First Nations cultural safety and awareness.

Working independently gives me the freedom to be flexible and responsive — meeting people where they’re at and tailoring support to what they truly need. It also means my services remain separate from other local organisations, ensuring privacy, trust, and genuine choice for clients.

Before these programs are developed, I’d love to hear from you — parents, carers, teachers, youth workers, community members, Elders, and service providers:

💬 What challenges are you seeing in local kids right now?
🌱 What kinds of programs, groups, or workshops do you think would make the most difference?
👣 What skills or supports do families and schools need to feel confident?

Your feedback will guide how these initiatives are designed, tested, and refined — ensuring they’re evidence-based, validated, and responsive to real community needs.
