We play spotto during pickups and droppoffs ... it gets pretty real ... some of the boys sometimes cant remember which vehicles fit and don't fit into spotto
We have evolved our own set of rules from votes from.the first guys to play and this is our house rules
We often see the Spotto Driving School GC car around and decided it was worth double points
Spotto is actually a pretty good game, while I realise it probably started by a parent trying to get their kids to stop saying 'are we there yet'
Spotto isn’t just a time-killer on drives, it’s actually a really solid skills-builder for things like
Pattern Recognition
Players need to notice certain cars quickly and accurately, sometimes in busy traffic with lots of distractions.
Decision Making
They have to judge whether a car counts or not, often in a split second.
Quick Thinking and Taking Action
Spotto relies on speed—spotting, calling, and claiming before anyone else can.
Attention and Focus
To stay in the game, players have to keep their eyes open and their minds switched on. It’s essentially training sustained concentration.
Memory and Recall
Remembering which vehicles “fit” and which don’t, or exceptions like the Spotto Driving School GC car being worth double points, pushes working memory and reinforces rule-based thinking.
Emotional Regulation
The competitive side teaches managing frustration, celebrating wins, coping with losses, and practicing fairness. Negotiating house rules adds another layer of social-emotional skill building.
Social Connection
Because everyone’s in the same game, it creates shared jokes, spotting strategies, and group fun. It’s cooperative competition that builds belonging.
Processing Speed
Players not only have to see the car, but also recognise it, recall the rule, and respond quickly. That sequencing strengthens cognitive processing.
Visual Discrimination
Identifying yellow cars or special vehicles develops scanning and recognition skills, which connect to everyday tasks like reading and navigating environments.
Executive Functioning
House rules, like adding bonus points or exceptions, force players to juggle multiple rules, adapt strategies, and track scores. It’s a sneaky workout for higher-level thinking.
Oh bu**er, utes count too i forgot about them
