Coopers Plains Long Acres Fire Department To provide fire protection, emergency medical aid and to respond to calls of assistance for preservation of life and property to which we are trained

The Coopers Plains-Long Acres Fire Department was incorporated in 1953. It was started with one truck, a 1936 Ward LaFrance/Ford Pumper, and some portable pumps by the men who wanted to have a fire department. The fire department building was completed in 1955. It was remodeled in 1974, and in 1985 the department built a second floor addition which includes a kitchen and community room, as well as adding fire bays. The current building has five truck bays and storage on the ground floor. The fire district includes all of Long Acres and Coopers Plains, which is NYS Route 415 from the Village of Painted Post line to the Campbell Town line. In addition, the district includes Aurene; West Hill Road; Smith Hill Road; and the portions of Beeman Hollow Road, Erwin Hollow Road and King Hill Road in the Town of Erwin. The department provides joint fire protection for the area including Corning Incorporated’s Sullivan Park facility. The fire department is a Volunteer Fire Department with an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) fire suppression rating of Class 4. The fire department is very proud of this rating because it is usually only earned by full time professional city fire departments. Besides fire suppression, the fire department provides BLS First Response for EMS calls, vehicle extrication, and has a large cache of cribbing and Rescue 42 stabilization struts for vehicle and building stabilization. Coopers Plains Fire Department is also a participating member of the Steuben Regional Technical Rescue Task Force for structural and trench collapse rescue.

As an emergency responder, educator, and mentor, Glenn has impacted, taught, worked with, and inspired countless people throughout the region. Did you see how many hands went up when Chief 46 asked who had been influenced by Glenn—whether on the fireground or in a classroom? That says it all. 💕

Congratulations, Chief Vogel, on being recognized at the First Responders 2025 Honor and Remembrance Ceremony as the 2025 First Responder of the Year. A well-deserved honor for a life dedicated to service. 🚒🙏

🇺🇸 We Remember. We Honor. We Serve. 🇺🇸

Today we pause to remember September 11, 2001.
24 years later, the memories remain vivid the bravery of first responders who ran toward danger, the lives lost, and the unity that carried our nation through unimaginable tragedy.

As a fire department, we especially honor the 343 FDNY firefighters, along with police officers, EMTs, and countless everyday heroes, who gave the ultimate sacrifice that day. Their courage is a reminder of why we serve protecting our community with the same spirit of dedication and selflessness.

May we never forget their sacrifice. May we always carry their legacy forward.

🚨 Camper Fire Response – Safety Reminder

At 5:38 AM this morning, we responded alongside Campbell Fire Department, and Savona Fire Department to a reported camper fire at Campbell Campgrounds. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely, and the damage was minor.

This incident is an important reminder: smoke detectors save lives. Be sure to install and regularly test them not only in your home, but also in “temporary” residences such as campers, hunting camps, and lake cottages.

We also recommend having working carbon monoxide (CO) detectors and fire extinguishers on hand in these spaces.

If you’d like advice on what equipment to purchase or tips for installation, don’t hesitate to reach out we’re always happy to help keep our community safe.

Last night around 9:10pm our crew was called out for a rollover. Thankfully, the driver was able to self-extricate and is now receiving care at the hospital.

In moments like these, it’s not just about the call—it’s about the people. The driver’s pet is safe and being cared for by us so the owner can focus fully on healing.

We’re always proud of our crew for the compassion they show. For them, this isn’t just a job—it’s a way of life. ❤️🚒🐾🐦

🚒 Tones don’t always bring everyone out the first time — but when it’s life or death, our team answers the call right away. We’re committed to being first in, first ready, though until we’re dispatched, our hands are tied.

This afternoon we were dispatched on a third alarm to a structure fire in our own back yard.

Thank you to Painted Post Fire Department, Campbell Fire Department, Gang Mills Fire Department, East Campbell Fire Department and all Neighboring Departments. We’re always glad and willing to work alongside you.

At the end of the day, mutual aid only works when we all work together — and that’s the mission we’ll always stand by.

Through the devestation and loss today we are happy to say everyone returned home safely!

In these moments every second counts and its up to us to come together as brothers and sisters. Not only having each others backs but holding each others lives.

🚒🔥 Training Together, Growing Stronger! 🔥🚒

This week, two departments came together as one—Coopers Plains Long Acres Volunteer Fire Department and Painted Post Fire Department—for joint training in vehicle extrication skills and new rescue techniques.

💡 Monday night: classroom learning.
💪 Saturday: hands-on training.

The goal? Faster, safer, and more efficient car extractions—because every second counts when lives are on the line.

A big shout-out to T&R Towing for generously providing their facility and donating cars for our crews to train with. And a huge thank-you to our brothers and sisters at Painted Post Fire Department for teaming up with us in this important training!

Together, we sharpen our skills so we can better serve our community. 🚑🚒💨

Those “boring” routines? They’re what make us fast. Efficient. Ready for the next order. Ready to save lives.

💪 Answer the call. Join our team today!
📍 Stop down to the fire department — our meeting starts tonight at 7 PM.
