From late Sunday, North East Victoria is expected to see possible heavy rainfalls and potential thunderstorms across the region. More rain events are forecast into next week.
In fire-affected areas, including the Walwa River Road fireground, this rainfall may lead to flash flooding, debris flow and landslides.
These risks are higher in recently burnt landscapes where vegetation loss and ash can cause runoff and unpredictable water movement.
Water may flow through catchments very quickly and even small amounts of rain can be hazardous within and around fire-impacted areas.
For your safety:
๐ซ Avoid the fire area. Conditions can change quickly and roads and tracks can become slippery.
๐ Never walk or drive through floodwaters. Even shallow water can be dangerous and conditions can change quickly.
โ ๏ธStay alert, stay informed and keep clear of fire-affected landscapes during this rainfall event. If youโre travelling, check emergency and road updates.
