TV and movies are meant to be enjoyed by everyone. If your vision has changed, a few tweaks can make watching shows more accessible and enjoyable.

Find your spot – Sit wherever the screen is clearest for you. Your furniture doesn’t need to be “conventional” - comfort and visibility matter more.
Tweak the screen – Adjust brightness and contrast so images stand out.
Try audio descriptions – Many shows and movies now offer narration that explains what’s happening on screen.
Mark your remote – Add tactile bumps or stickers to key buttons so they’re easy to find.
Use your voice – Smart TVs often let you change channels or settings with voice commands.

Do you have a trick that works for you? Share it in the comments - your idea might help someone else.

How to instil eye drops with low vision

Instilling eye drops correctly is important for ensuring they work effectively, particularly if you use them regularly to treat an eye or vision condition. Here are some quick tips for instilling eye drops properly:

Wash your hands first. Clean hands are important for preventing contamination.
Tilt your head backwards to prevent drops running out of your eye.
Gently pull down your eyelid with your index finger. The pocket created between your eye and eyelid should be the target for your eye drops.
Close your eyes for a few moments after administering drops. This helps them spread evenly across the eye’s surface.
If you are still having trouble instilling your eye drops, you may find an eye drop guide useful. Talk to your eye care professional to see if an eye drop guide might be right for you and your treatment plan.

Living with diabetes?

1 in 3 people living with diabetes are diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy, an eye condition which can be caused by all types of diabetes and one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in Australia.

This National Diabetes Week, the spotlight is on prevention of both diabetes and its complications. If you’re living with diabetes, regular eye tests are essential for monitoring your eye health and for early detection.
