Hi everyone, massive welcome to all my new followers! Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with me!
As I said yesterday, I thought I would do another little intro, so you all know a little bit about me and what I may be able to support you with.
I'm Sophie, originally from the UK, and moved to Port Pirie in 2018 to be closer to be my best friend and Godson.
I became pregnant in 2022 and had a rough time, I had hyperemisis, and was needing fluid through a drip almost every week. My daughter was very active from early on, however instead of feeling and enjoying the movements, it would make me more sick. I didn't enjoy it.
I returned to the UK for a holiday, as approved by my OB, at 22 weeks and returning back to Adelaide at 26 weeks. However the return flight didn't go according to plan, and I became very ill and went in to labour somewhere over Bangkok! I was flown to Melbourne where I was taken off the plane by paramedics and rushed to hospital. Fortunately the amazing doctors were able to stop my contractions with medication, however I continued to go in and out of labour, which was stopped every time, until finally at 36 weeks I gave birth to my daughter. I spent those 10 weeks in hospital, away from any friends or family, no support.
Following my pretty crappy pregnancy, I had a hard time adjusting to being a mum. It didn't come naturally to me. Everything felt inadequate. I put so much pressure on myself to be the "perfect" mum and I cracked.
I knew I needed more support, I surrounded myself with professionals, started going out for walks and meeting friends for coffee, started doing online courses. I was lucky. I was able to get the support I desperately needed and a LOT of self help. However I often hear women say they don't have support or they're battling motherhood alone. So I want to be here for you. I want to create a "village" of support around you. Child rearing is not natural, it is a learned skill, we learn from those around us, and if we don't have those around us, we don't learn.
If you, or someone you know, feels you may need this type of support, please reach out. I'm here for you. ❤️❤️❤️
