🎣 Fishing Tales on the Mighty Warrego River 🌾
A couple of weeks back, Brett, Dan and Dave took Keith out for a few hours of fishing — and let’s just say the scoreboard tells the story:

🐟 Dan – 2 fish (“Legend,” in his own words 😂)
🙅‍♂️ Dave – 0 fish (woeful…)
🙅‍♂️ Bretto – 0 fish (pitiful…)
⚡ Keith – gets full points for hooking a monster bite that dragged his rod straight into the river!

Keith was out of his seat like lightning trying to save it, but in the end, Legend Dan had to step up and make the rescue.

Plenty of laughs, a couple of fish, and memories that make days on the Warrego one-of-a-kind 💛

🌾 NAIDOC Week in Jandowae
Last week, Lucy and Lily had the privilege of attending a NAIDOC Week event in Jandowae, hosted by Southern Cross Care Qld Ltd.

We were so grateful to be invited by Jasmine Siggs, Home Care Manager for the Western Downs, and for the chance to spend the day alongside such incredible people and organisations.

A special shoutout to Guest Chef Chris Willis (SCC Head of Hospitality Services), Francis Price and Josephine from the SCC Board, and our fellow attendees from Maudu Collective, Rainbow Warrior Holistic Life Coach, Wambo Wind Farm, and Business Navigator Western Downs.

Events like this are more than just a celebration — they’re an opportunity to build relationships with other service providers, strengthen community connections, and work together for better outcomes 💛

Thank you again to Jasmine and the team at SCCQ for the warm invitation — we’re proud to walk alongside you in community care.

🚶‍♀️💜 Team Gwandalan is on the move!
This month we’ve joined the Stride4Stroke challenge, raising funds and awareness for the Stroke Foundation.

Every 11 minutes, someone in Australia has a stroke — and by striding it out together, we’re helping to create a future with fewer strokes, more survivors, and stronger recoveries.

We’ve already logged over 600 minutes of movement and we’re just getting started 💪

If you’d like to support our team, you can donate here:

Thank you for walking beside us in this challenge 💛

🎥 Quickfire Questions with Lucy!
Our Service Manager, Lucy, swapped the office for the hot seat this week as we fired some quick questions her way ⚡️

🏉 Footy or cricket?
🎶 Her very first concert?
…you’ll have to watch to find out 😉

It’s all part of showing the fun side of our Gwandalan team — because caring for our communities isn’t just about support, it’s about connection 💛

💛 A Very Special Visit to Yapunyah Lodge
We were truly honoured to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeanette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, along with Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD, during their time in Cunnamulla today.

Of course, we were also joined by our wonderful Paroo Shire Council Suzette Beresford - Mayor Paroo Shire Council, who is always such a strong supporter of Yapunyah Lodge and our community. 💛

Their visit included the Cunnamulla Multipurpose Health Service, the Quinine Centre, and of course Yapunyah Lodge Aged Care, where they met residents and saw firsthand the care and community we’re building here with Gwandalan Support Services.

Moments like this remind us how important it is to provide the highest quality aged and disability care in rural Queensland — and how proud we are to call Cunnamulla home. 🌾

Why We Love Cunnamulla ❤️ — and Why Yapunyah Lodge Is Here to Serve

Nestled on the Warrego River in South West Queensland, Cunnamulla (meaning “long stretch of water” in the Kunja language) isn’t just a geographic dot—it’s a strong, resilient community with deep cultural roots, rich history, and enduring spirit.

With a population of just over 1,200 people, this town serves as the administrative heart of the Paroo Shire Council—home to proud traditions, hardworking stockmen, and warm, welcoming residents.

Cunnamulla pulses with outback life—from rodeo-style festivals celebrating local culture to community projects that breathe new energy into daily life.

That’s why, at Gwandalan Support Services, we’re dedicated to bringing the highest quality disability and aged care to this extraordinary community. Yapunyah Lodge isn’t a clinical facility—it’s a home, built on connection, respect, and care that reflects Cunnamulla’s spirit. Whether it's sharing freshly picked fruit from our garden, enjoying sunset chats, or offering supports that honour local values—we’re here for every part of your day.

Because in Cunnamulla, every good day is earned, and every person deserves a home that celebrates life—just like this one.

🚜✨ Yesterday was a big day out for Gary!
He spent the day at the 2025 NHMA National Rally in Kingsthorpe — soaking up the sights of old machinery, classic cars, and all the history that comes with them.

From tractors to vintage engines, Gary loved every minute of it (especially the classic cars 🚗💛).

It’s days like this that remind us how important community outings are — sharing passions, sparking memories, and creating new ones too.

💡 NDIS Myth-Busting
There’s a lot of confusion out there about what the NDIS is, who it’s for, and how it works — and we’re here to set the record straight.

We’ll be busting common myths, answering your questions, and making the NDIS feel a little less overwhelming.
Because when you know the facts, you can get the most out of your plan.

Got an NDIS question (or a myth you’ve heard)? Drop it in the comments and we might feature it next!

💛 Why become a support worker?
Because it’s more than a job — it’s a chance to make a real difference in someone’s life every single day.

At Gwandalan Support Services, no two days are the same. One day you might be helping someone achieve a personal goal, the next you could be sharing a laugh over a cuppa or heading out to a community event.

It’s about connection, compassion, and being part of something bigger — especially here in rural Queensland, where every helping hand truly counts.

Keith enjoyed helping at the Cunnamulla & District Show Society Inc. Pavilion last week.

He obviously had to have an ice cream treat afterwards. Yum!
