“Use my EAP? No way. I don’t want everyone knowing what my issues are.”

I’ve heard this a lot over the years. Employees can be reluctant to access their free workplace counselling sessions due to fears of a lack of confidentiality.

There are also misunderstandings that NTG EAP use needs to have HR approval.

Luckily, with Northern Territory Government EAP processes, there is little to no chance of confidentiality issues including HR being involved…when you use an Approved Provider.

Accessing your free workplace counselling sessions through an approved provider enables you to directly access the counselling service with no communication what so ever required with your workplace.
No approvals.
No reporting of details that might identify you.
No AGS number reported back.
Just you, just the therapist.
No managers, general managers or HR need to know.
Ever.*
Unless there was something incredibly serious that by law could not be kept confidential. Such as you had committed a serious criminal offence at your workplace. That could not be kept from HR!

Yep, you guessed it. We are an NTG EAP approved provider. Your privacy, confidentiality and right to access helpful support are taken very seriously.

"Where there's a will, there's a way".

I find there is just something about the inspiration and encouragement found in the natural world. If we just take the time and be open to it, I find it amazing; the messages that can be drawn from something like tree roots growing over rock. Or a tiny green sprout in the middle of concrete!

May you see inspiration and encouragement each and everyday.

There is still time to register to attend a Q&A tomorrow morning (early) with Judy Atkinson. I attended a very powerful cross cultural training led by Judy some years ago.

On Tuesday 10th starting at 7:00 am AEST (the date and time advertised on the tile is Pacific Time) - tune into a chat with Myself and mum, Judy Atkinson and the team from Science and Nonduality Conference discussing The EternalSong and all things Healing in a Q&A session after a community screening of the film.

This film is a heartbreaking look at the impact that colonisation has had on the world but even more importantly, the ways back to healing!!

Not much of an introduction should be necessary for this colleague working with me providing NTG EAP. Veteran social worker Pamela Trotman – Mental Health Accredited Social Worker, Adjunct Professor CDU, AASW Fellow & author with over a whopping 55 years’ experience!

Trauma recovery & managing personal/professional stressors/crises.
Pamela is a long-term NT resident of 35 years with experience across a range of practice contexts, first in metropolitan and regional NSW then, since 1989 the NT. Since the early 2000s her focus has been ‘trauma recovery’ which she describes as ‘rebuilding one’s life and reclaiming self’ following catastrophic events.

Pamela adopts a variety of therapeutic approaches gained from extensive post-graduation training which she combines with equally extensive lived experience in her work with clients in their efforts to achieve wellbeing and emotional-social health. Clients include individuals, couples and families who have been impacted by catastrophic events.

A second feature of Pamela’s work is her interest in assisting clients to ‘navigate’ challenging emotional and social contexts (personal and professional) and life crises so their mental health or sense of self is not undermined. Each approach requires the client to actively invest in the process with Pamela’s support and guidance.

Just talking doesn’t work.
Traditional ‘Talk Therapy’ has been one person sitting with another person, talking through life and self struggles.

Yes this ‘works’. If I didn’t believe (and personally had experienced) that talking problems through makes a constructive, lasting difference, I certainly would not keep offering the counselling that I do.
However, my practice position is that just talking doesn’t bring about the deeper mental, emotional and spiritual shifts that are possible and available to us as. Especially when the concern involves the re-opening of an old wound or something traumatic.

That’s why when working with people who meet with me for therapy I include other modalities such as drawing, breathwork, mindfulness and offer outdoor sessions through walk & talk therapy. I also make sure I work with the person to find interventions that work for them in shifting strong emotions – such as intentional lifting of weights at the gym or writing out thoughts and engagingly ripping up the paper, to include multiple senses in their emotional processing and sense making.

So, I’m very happy to talk and do so all the time. But I don’t rely on only talking. The body needs to and even wants to be involved.
